HI, I have a hacker motor as described above and the gearbox fell apart. I am going to use it with a external mount/gearbox. How do you take the threaded end cap off? the threaded end protrudes out and will not allow for the new pinion gear to mount. Do I need to "machine" the threaded end off to make clearance??

Chris,
Your current motor can be easily repaired if you send it in to us. However, in order for you to be able to mount an external gear box you would need to convert your motor to "direct drive". This involves exchanging the rotor and front plate.

Hi Kyna,
Thanks for the reply. Yes I did talkj to Hacker directly and was informed that the Maxon Gearbox can be repaired. Although it is somewhat expensive. It seems kind of fragile and with it unscrewing from the motor on my landing approach at about 30 feet elevation, it left me in a awkward situation. I was able to find the gear box but the 3 pinion gears inside were lost! Although it is probably the epitime of sofistication, I think I want to convert it to a stickmount gearbox with interchangeble gears. The front plate would need to be modified but why would the rotor need to be changed??
Thanks,
Chris

Chris,
Wasnt that the 3rd or fourth time you had even used that motor? It does'nt seem like the gearbox should come apart on a brand new motor. Have you heard of this before Kyna?

Chris,
The reason the rotor would also need to be converted is due to the pinion gear that is part of the rotor.
The gear box should never just come off, if you would like to send it in we can examine it to make sure there were no issues.

Hi Kyna and Bob,
Yes Bob your right about the few flights I had on the B20-18Lw/4.1, To the best of my recolection, I had only used it about 10 times. I am sure it should last longer than that and that it should never come apart in flight!
Kyna, if I send it back, could you see if it would be covered under warrantee, (bought Christmas of 2005) and if not, could you convert it to external gearbox ready?
