A couple of questions on the Optic 6:

1) How easy is it to remove the ratchet on the throttle? Anyone tried it?

2) Any tips on how best to get the case open? The instructions are clearly lacking, they only say to remove the screws but you've got to get the side grips off (they snap on). I tore the grips up pretty bad trying to open it before.

Well, its been a week since you posted, so I expect you've tried on your own...

One thing the manual didn't mention was that to get the case open, first you need to remove those darker colored pieces from the side. After that, you just remove the screws (4, I think) and the cover will lift off.

The dark pieces just pop off.. gently put a blade under the bottom and pry it up carefully so as not to break the clips that hold it on.

As for the ratchet... if I remember, the throttle ratchet should be easy to remove, but why would you? I actually want to stiffen mine up, that's why I had the back off. ... I was able to stiffen the other sticks, but the throttle ratchet is not adjustable, its just a simple metal pressure ratchet sitting on the plastic gear.

Thanks for the reply, yes I had already removed the plastic side grip pieces but had trouble getting them off without tearing them up. As far as the ratchet goes, I've had several respected 3D flyers say that removing the ratchet gives more precise throttle control so I thought I'd give it a try. Haven't done it yet tho...

A little late in this instance, but to assist other viewers with opening the case of the Optic 6 to change mode or replace the throttle ratchet with a softer unit, such as that extra piece supplied with the Eclipse for Heli fliers, refer to sub section "Servo & TX alterations, calculators, clonepacs, make an ESC or winch, FAQ", at http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~atong/ especially "Change Mode 1 to 2 or 2 to 1 - DIY pictorial re Optic 6 & Flash 5X"

Mine needed the antenna to be removed in order for it to open completely
