Anyone flying a co-axial at 6000'? From day one my Blade CX has had flight
duration of about 1 minute off full charge. I'd be interested on the
experience of others at high altitude.

Dick,
Thanks for your advice. Today, I was able to try a Thunder Power 2S 900mahr
battery and was able to fly continuously for about 5 minutes before I had to
use full power to hover. Plenty of time for me! That was definitely my
longest flight by far. Unfortunately, also about 1 second too long. (Sigh)
The couch struck again! Furniture sucks! (It really does!)
My stock E-flight BCX batteries will now be reassigned to my 8oz Parkmaster:
they power it just fine.
I just may need to do some major remodeling on the bottom of my BCX to make
the shorter fatter battery convenient to mount though.

Hi Nick,
I've a friend here at 1K alt. who's gone through two sets of three
packs (!) with his CX. First, the service reps said to return the charger
and 3 packs (done). Next group didn't last a couple of months. I
understand (from more than one source) there were some 4-in-1 units that had
problems. He's returning the heli this week.

Definitely, but not limited to furniture alone! Most recent sucking has
been a hearing aid, not found, a watch for several weeks, found, and,
yesterday, after a slight collision with a chair (twice), a still
missing Co-Co flybar. For future incidents, I ordered two flybars and
sets of screws from HL. My wife wants me to paint such parts a garish
color for easy discovery!

Ed,
I only have two of the BCX battery packs. I took my BCX to the shop where I
bought it and meekly asked for trouble shooting help. The young man (kid)
working there took a break, turned it on, and promptly brought it up into a
nice stable hover. He then just held it there. After several minutes (far
longer than I'd ever been able to keep it up), he looked at me and asked
"What problem?" Very embarrassing! The shop is at about 4300' elevation.
Before going home, I went to my M in L's house (at about the same elevation)
and flew the rest of the pack, and the second: not the greatest, but good
enough that I probably wouldn't have complained too hard. Based on that, I
think the performance at lower altitude would be even better.
That being said, I too think the batteries are not anywhere near as good as
they should be. After testing them in an airplane on the bench, I'd say
they are about a 1st generation 5C battery: I got 7 minutes at 5C (4A) and
about 11 minutes at 3A. My TP battery didn't cost any more and it's clearly
a much higher C battery! I don't see any reason why Horizon couldn't supply
a current technology battery at the same price: just about everybody else
is!
Otherwise, I think the BCX is a very nice product at its price. Like
everyone else, I've found the stock flybar yoke and blade holder/pivots to
be more fragile than I'd like. But, when you beat the thing against the
walls, furniture, and floor, you've got to expect something to break!
If anyone is going to buy one of these, there ARE a few spare parts and
upgrades that you shouldn't leave the store without! Just ask!

The flybar yoke fix is a easy one. Remove the screw that goes through the
yoke above the flybar this will allow the flybar to pop out rather than
breaking the yoke most of the time.

No screw in my Co-Co, but the flybar popped out, in my living room,
haven't found it yet - is there a flybar holding area somewhere?

Hi Nick,
I agree the E-flight packs seem to be a bit marginal. I've had good
luck so far with some Dualsky packs. They're wider than the CX will allow,
so will have to be adapted, possibly suspended below the mount on the heli.
At 15C-20C, they seem to have better delivery capabilities. One thing I do
with all my lipos is run them conservatively. If the application calls for
6 amps max, instead of getting a 600 ma/10C-rated pack, I'll run a 700 or
800 15C. As the numbers given from the manufacturers are in many cases
optimistic, I feel it doesn't hurt to err on the cautious side.

No, but I just ordered some Azarr lite Micro antennas. I have one on my
4.5 oz Road Kill Curtis Pusher and on one flight still had control radio
wise, but nearly lost it in the distance with my eyeballs, still under
control, it was so far away I couldn't tell in what direction it was
flying - just lucked out, luckily, in turning it in the right direct,
eyesight made a bit sharper by fear/adrenaline, no doubt :-). I'd think
that type of antenna is plenty for the Co-Co, assuming it'll never be
flown as far as we fly the winged birds.
Until I receive the Azarrs, I wonder whether I might lop off half of the
current antenna, as the 'copter will never be far from the transmitter?

The antenna on my Hirobo is wound around what looks like a piece of
cardboard about 1 in. by 1 in. with about 2 in. left sticking out. A had
about half a dozen rcvrs with Tony's short ant. with no problems. Now with
the Spektrum I sold them all to buy more DX6 rcvrs.

I'm thinking you could cut off 3/4th or more of it and still have a better
antenna than the full length
wrapped around its self like the photos show it.
I have some of the 1.5 micro henry coils so I'll give the flywire antenna a
try.

It's never a good idea cutting the antenna 'about this much' or otherwise.
They're that length for a reason. Unless, of course, one needs a trip to
the LHS for spares...

Hi Guys,
I am looking to do some mods on the lama V3 so it performs at its best.
I have flown a Shuttle Gold for a number of years and when I remarried
I moved but left the heli at our other home. (Not a lot of room for models here on the island) A few days ago I got a Lama V3. It is pretty cool for a small heli.
I like it a lot and it allows heli flying anytime.
I have about 40 flights on her now and have found a few issues I would like to address and fix. I also would like to get input from others as to what else I should take a look at. Is there a thread already where this type of info can be found or posted? it would be nice to have the info on one thread instead of scattered around in different ones.
Can someone direct me if there is one already.
Thanks
