Beautiful! Just stunning! I was thinking of a Trojan as my first kit, but I settled on a Grauper Carina, mostly because of the overall cost of the Trojan is just a little too much for me at the moment. :o
How was the build? Is the Trojan a built-up kit? Or is it an ABS hull? I'd love to see some pictures of the build if they're available!!

I am the proud owner of the Dumas Trojan featured above. I have no talent for building (anything) so I acquire built models - such as this boat. I bought it fully built from an expert modeler. I got a fantastic deal.
The boat is made out of wood - no plastic or fiberglass. It took a lot of time to build, no doubt. On the video it is running on 7.2 volts. I plan to up it to 8.4 volts in the near future.
Thanks for the nice comments.
Kmot - - thanks for the video and pictures! They're terrific.

I acquired this kit from a friend who gave up on it as soon as he opened the box, and this has to be, oh, over 20 or more years ago. I get a little nostalgic over old kits, and I'm surprised that these are still around.
I'll admit that I didn't do as good a job on finishing it as the one shown---.

Stephan, I am currently using a Sony DCR DVD-100, the very first generation of the Sony mini-DVD camcorders. I bought it as soon as it hit the stores. Before any reviews came out about it. I assumed that because it was a Sony, and because it was the latest technology (DVD) that it would be a superior camera. Boy, was I wrong! It is basically a POS but I paid $900 for it and I am stuck with it.

Before that I was using a Panasonic VHS-C camcorder. I gave it away as soon as I got the Sony.

Awesome video! It's great to see one of these models actually running!
Rampage, the Dumas Trojan kit is a "labor of love" or less PC, a pain in the :censored:
I am with little modeling skill granted, but this kit has been difficult for me. I have a build thread going slowly as I make progress. The tough part is the wooden hull.
If you want to see someone extremely talented put one together, check out Cold Duck's Trojan Modification thread. He has both inspired me and driven me to get more detail into my Trojan.
Here is the page for my construction thread:

The boat is being powered by twin Johnson 600 fan-cooled motors. These motors are great as you can buy them at electronics stores for around $3.50 each! Amazing deal compared to so many other types of motors!
The ESC is an LRP 8325 which sells for $69.99 at Hobby People. I am using a 6 cell 7.2volt 3000mAH stick battery - - but I am going to get even better performance from a new 7 cell 8.4volt 3600mAH stick coming soon.

Matt,
What's the running hardware on it? The Dumas hardware, the standard M.A.C.K set? Is it running twin props?
Also, where did you purchase the motors?

The running hardware is the standard "kit" from Dumas. The props are counter-rotating. The motors were purchased from the person who assembled the boat - I don't know where he purchases them from exactly - but he sells them on ebay (he marks them up - but still a great deal). If you want his contact info - I can give it to you.
Also - check www.allelectronics.com for their DC Motors - you probably can find them there as well.

Thanks, Matt. I also have the standard Dumas running gear set, so at least I have some proof it will work!

Footage from Lake Balboa. The extra cell battery makes a very nice difference in speed.

The onboard video looks cool! It sounds like you are getting some really bad glitching still.
I see from the vid there were people fishing in the model boating area again. http://www.fototime.com/0C188D64587295C/orig.gif
Maybe they should put the "Model Boating Only" signs up in multiple languages like they do the voting pamphlets......
Who would want to eat a fish caught from a toilet anyway. http://www.fototime.com/69844489F285903/orig.gif

The glitching comes with that radio continues - this is the same radio I had in the Donzi (which has now been replaced with a brand new FM). The old radio with the Trojan has been donated to the Prime Time - as I prefer glitching on the Trojan to glitching on the Prime Time.

I am making room for more boats and the Trojan is now on the auction block. If anybody is interested, please check it out on ebay - it ends next Saturday, September 9. Search for "Dumas Trojan"
