Hi All,

Can anyone give me some details on th motor that's in the boat I've just bought please. Here's what's on the label, items shown here in square brackets are in boxes on the label.

MONOPERM SUPER 5-POL

6V = Leer [24A] [9000] U/min
Load [3A] [5000] U/min

[160 CMP] [90oC] [2 ohm]

V Max = 9 3A 5 [4.5] A

Made in Germany

I guess it's a German Monoperm motor! I can follow the rev speeds (U/min) and the current ratings at 'leer' (no load) and 'load', but there seems to be a heck of a current difference for the extra 4k revs. The V Max makes sense too. But what about the 160 CMP and the other details.

The motor is powered at 6V, and direct driving a 2" 4 blade brass prop in a steerable kort, and gives a good scale speed, not fast but fast enough. If I should ever need to replace the motor, what current equivalent would I need.

Thanks
Andy

Andy,
Just as a guess (take that for what it's worth!), I would have to say I think there's a misprint in the no-load specs. I think it should be 2.4A instead of 24A and 9000 rpm. If that thing draws 24 amps under no load, and only 3 amps under load, it's a miracle!
I think the 'V Max' gives rpm and current draws, another guess, but appears to be at least a reasonable assumption, maybe. As for the 'CPM', I have no idea at all. Would the '90o' thingy have something to do with temperature?? Beats me.

What motor to replace it with if necessary? I think I'd go by the size of the case as a general estimate, 500, 540, 600, whatever. The first two digits pertain to 'mm' (size of motor), the last digit to the number of poles in the motor. And the no-load rpm. Not a very good way of doing it, but? Might also find someone who speaks German, knows about electrical motors, and would explain it to you - lol! (Sure leaves me out!)
Good luck!

This motor is built by Marx (Germany). My information is as follows:

The Monoperm Super
This a 5 pole motor which is available in either 6 volt or 12 volt versions.
· For the 6 volt Monoperm Super:
o No load current @ 6 volts = 0.24 amps
o Max current @ 6 volts = 3 amps
o Watts = 8
o Efficiency = 64%
o Recommended controls for one motor: SCT-4L or SCA-4L
o Recommended controls for two motors: SCA-6.6L
· For the 12 volt Monoperm Super:
o No load current @ 12 volts = 0.12 amps
o Max current @ 12 volts = 1.5 amps
o Watts = 8
o Efficiency = 70%

Sorry - ignore everything after "Efficiency = 64%" - catalogue numbers have to do with a speed control for the motor.
