View Full Version : Discussion Simjet - Poor service or not.

After being a Simjet customer for the past 8 years now and buying 5 turbines from Lars (SimJet owner) I feel that I must share with the jet community a tale of - well lets say - not perfect service.

I have asked Lars if he has any objections to me publishing emails between himself and me and he has no objections.

Has anyone else had an experience like this with simjet ?

Well I have just read through all that. I would be surprised if anyone who reads it would ever want to sell any engine to you ever again.....

Did you not have adequate house insurance ?

Hi geemac,

Thankyou for your reply.

I had adequate insurance, but I don't understand why you asked that perticular question?

Alan.

I would have expected the insurance to cover your contents loss in the fire

Including the loss of the engines ?

Including the loss of the engines ?

I was insured for my house contents but not my models.

I do have to ask the relevance to your question regarding Simjet customer service ?

You appear to have a claim in with them for the damaged engines - did you not think that a model of such value should be named on your house insurance policy ?

I don't have a current 'claim' with regards Simjet, I do however have an ongoing complaint with them with regards the service in which I received from them.

Due to the value of the model, I was unable to insure through any home insurance company. It was my decision to make the model, and I was fully aware that the money i had invested would as per usual with any model inevtitablly end up in the bucket.

However I fail to understand why I should insure items within my house against lack of customer service that I received as a customer by a company.

I am sure if you have as you have said read the events that transpired between myself and Simjet you would realise my complaint is regarding their customer service and their failure to even open the engines once they were received for inspection.

So you are not claiming money from them, OK.

Did they charge you for examining the damaged engines ?

I am not claiming money from Simjet.

They did not charge me for examining the engines as the didn't examine them.

Alan I'm really sorry that you suffered such a loss, I hope that in time you will get over it and once again enjoy this marvellous hobby. Life is too short for bickering.

Thanks for your sentiments but this isn't about bickering - it's about the poor service I received from Simjet.

It's important that modellers learn from this incident.

It's that important just try Googling ' simjet service '

ToyotaCelica,

I tried to read all of it, but got tired. After what I read, I can't say I completely agree that's this is an example of bad customer service. It seemed to me that Simjet made a decision regardign repairability of the engine, that while it can be debated, it's still within the type of business judgements that business owners make.

Anyway, good luck on your next project.

Regards,
Edgar

Disclosure: I own one Simjet 2300. No issues so far. I don't have experience with dealing directly with the factory, only with their dealers.

Hi Edgar and Thanks for your response.

I understand what you are saying as being a self-employed businessman myself, however, the decision that Simjet made was based on ' having a look ' at the turbines and writing them off without opening them up.

Lets say you blacked out all the windows on your car and took it to the garage for repair and the mechanic looks at it from a distance and tells you that it needs a new interior.

Or in Simjets case, your car is a write off.

Alan.

I have a simjet 3000, which i bought secondhand from a friend, which has never given me any problems, except recently the temp thermocouple gave up the ghost, I had a bit of trouble contacing Simjet, but as it turned out they were at a show, i left a message on their answer machine and they telephoned me back, I ordered the thermocouple and they asked me my home adress, which i gave them, i then asked them how they wanted me to pay for the thermocouple, and they said have this one on us, it turned up at my house in the U.K. the next day. that has been my exprience of Simjet service.

I have a friend that has Simjet engines and has sent them back for service and has been offered a newer model of the same engine for less money that the service would have cost, I don't know of many businesses that would do that.

That's precisely what is bizarre here Gazza3535.

Lets say I crashed my 2 Subaru WRX's (My fault) and send them back to subaru for repair ?

And Subaru offer me a brand new Subaru STi (better model) for cheaper than list price.

Surely that would ring alarm bells ?

Why would they insist on keeping my crashed older Subaru's ?

Or, perhaps, do they need the older parts to keep older subaru's that come in for repair running ?

What I find most interesting though - is lars of Simjet didn't even open these engines up for inspection, he just merely wrote them off and offered a new one at a discounted price. Has Lars ever seen a domestic house fire damaged turbine? Surely as a prolific engineer he would have been at the least - a little interested as towards the internals?

Hey Toyotacelica, would you happen to own a rex or sti?
Are you on NASIOC?
Just wondering, as I own a scooby, and have met several other people here, with one too.

sti !

I wish !

Just a new wrx for me, awsome. username/displayname change for me soon :) Loved my celica - a lot !

But not straying off topic, If me and my wifes cars got damaged in a car wreck and i send them to Subaru for repair, and they come back with - the cars are unrepairable but you can have an sti for less than cost price, then what would my wife have left to drive?

I sent 2 simjets back to Lars for repair and he offered a new simjet at less than cost price. (if he kept the old ones that is)

What use is one turbine to me when my miG29 requires 2 ?

Asking yet again, why did he want to keep the old turbines ?

Any answer Lars ?

Any answer Lars ?

Well it's been a while now that Lars of Simjet has not responded.

He never gave me any answers on this site - RCgroups - or any other web site to mention.

That is a sad state of affairs really.

I do now wonder, how the other miniature jet turbine manufaturers look at this situation?

I hope that they learn that customer satisfaction is paramount when it comes to future business.

Take care of you and yours.

Best regards as always.

Alan.

I have to admit that RCgroups has one of the best ' meta tag ' aquisition to the Google search engine.

Googling ' Simjet service ' puts this thread at the Top of the list.

But by Googling just ' Simjet ' alone, gets a number 6 spot down the ladder, making it front page news as far as the search engine goes.

Sorry about these stats Lars, but Simjet did do me a diss-service.

Sorry mods to go off topic for a moment.

ronmeister, I've been driving my new Scooby now for about 350 miles and looks like 28mpg to the imperial gallon. Very impressive for a 2.5 ltr porche boxter engine! :)

On topic again though, Hasn't the member HobbyCNC thrown a wobbly or what ?

I don't understand why ? C'mon Dave (HobbyCNC) tell us why your so upset.

Kind regards as always.

Alan.

Ps. About to change my log-in name to imprezaWRX - if it's not taken already. :(

Guys, you need to get one of these Subaru badboys, if you like jets, then this car is for you. It's like driving a nuclear explosion. Semtex with a steering wheel. :D
