The Tualatin Crawfish Festival is coming up August 12th.
in Tualatin, Oregon
The Portland Power model boat club is hosting it's annual fun run that day at the Tualatin Commons. Members of the Northwest RC Shipmodelers are expected to attend. And many submarine models are expected to show up for the Pacific Northwest Submarine regatta being held simultaneously on the 12 and 13th.
Also, Phil and I, of the Queen's Own Scale Model warship club are hosting the 6th Annual Portland Regatta. As always, the course is judged on commands to the bosun, or stick movements made on the transmitter. We have plaques for any participants, and Plaques for the winners. This year I have managed to secure a Gift certificate for Tammies Hobbies and several discount coupons and catalogues for http://www.harbormodels.com/
So if you are free, come by the pond to chat, sail, or compete.

Working for the family business hauling trailers to the fair that Friday/Sat. :( Have fun to all those going as a good number of NW R/C Shipmodelers are going. Highly recomended for a good time! :p Get a room at the hotel overlooking the pond and run boats from the balcony is a favorite thing to do there with them. I will make up for not getting there by going North to an Airshow on Sunday wishing I was in Tuallitin!

What is the time schedule for Saturday? I have been there a couple of times but what is the parking situation? I will be coming down on Friday and staying with a friend but was wondering if there were going to be parking problems Saturday morning? Jerry J

Set up is around 8-9am
If you arrive later, take the Boones ferry road exit and work your way south and west to the pond. (SW Boones Ferry Road and Seneca)
You may run into a parade if you take the Tualatin exit after 9:30 am.
The Parking is usually good early. You can pull up to the turnaround, drop off equipment, and then park half a block away.

I am late getting back, and have made a preliminary damage assesment and repair. :o I will post that in the SDM(converting plywood to rc (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=551258)) Thread.
Great event, I was busy setting up the maneuvering course, messing with my SDM tug, and doing course work and judging to take any pictures. I even had the camera out twice.
Anyway Lots of people, and boats. Thank you to everyone who showed up.
I think everyone will agree that Tualatin is a great venue and could really support some great events. This fun run, Portland Regatta, and this year the submarine regatta running all at once show the potential.
We had 8 people sign up for the maneuvering event. This years scores ranged from 60-183.
First place went to Neal Paddison sailing his USS Oregon.
Second place to Don McDonald sailing his tug Alan Kulwicki
Third place to Roger Forlines(Ropanach) sailing his tug Ropanach
Fourth to Al Kinsman sailing a Spriniger tug
Fifth to Brad Schuld sailing his 1/72nd scale Bismarck.
Sixth place to Bob McCaleb sailing his unfinished 1/96th scale Bismarck
Seventh to Mel Suezlel sailing his Smit Rotterdam
Eight to Christopher Jones who came to the pond to sail his toy sail boat.
Neal was awarded Best of scale, and Brad was awarded best of show.
Neal recieved a $25 gift certificate to Tammies Hobbies of Beaverton Oregon (http://www.tammieshobbies.com/).
Don McDonald, Roger Forlines and Al Kinsman all recieved $25 discount certificates and Catalogs to Harbor Models.com (http://www.harbormodels.com/)

I think that my favorite boat for the day was the 1/35 scale LCT from the submarine tables. I saw it sail into the harbor, drop the gate, and the tracked vehicle in the LCT lumbered out of the LCT, and dropped into the water. Then both of LCT and the tracked vehicle sailed around. When they met up again, the tracked vehicle crawled back into the LCT, and the LCT sailed away.
I think there were some concerns over the addition of a model submarine event during this Fun Float/Regatta, but I believe that everything went really well. I know there were a couple of frequency issues, but with more careful monitoring and cooperation, that can be ironed out. I'm glad a lot of people could make it down to Oregon for this one event.
 See you at FOSS CUP!!

My problem was that I forgot that the subs were running on the other part of the pond, I missed most of them except those displayed on the table. We normally don't have that many subs at the regatta and I was just watching what was being put into the water in the scale side. I need to work on my multi disipline skills. Did we mention the food and drinks provided? A great time was had by most and thanks to the groups putting the regatta on. Jerry J

I agree with jerryj, thanks to all invalved, it was a great time, after the shock I got when I open the trailor hauling my gear,  some pic's of the damage,
In some of the other pic's posted you can see I salvaged the barges, well made then look like I did, I even got the construction barge into the water for a short run, alot of the little guys were happy the smiles on the faces when I went by gave me a better out look on the day.

Most every thing was ok just sort of dismanteled, but the ENVOY took the damage, from the decks up was mangled, it will take longer to make repairs than it did to build it

Sorry to hear about that. I have always worried about the bouncing associated with single axle trailers, they seem just too light. Double axle trailers seem to give a smoother ride. I'm lucky enough that my work supplies me with a full size van which I use to my advantage.

I was sorry to hear about the bump on the railroad tracks.
With all the soldering and repair work we were doing at our tables, we would have been happy to rebuild the Envoy for you there at the pond. ;)

ropanach: What happened exactly? It looks more like you rolled the trailer than hit a bump! I feel a little ill just looking at it! Damage like that is only supposed to happen to those misguided airplane people who try to defy gravity.
...a slightly toasted thumb and forefinger...
umi: It just goes to show... smoking is bad for you! ;) Glad to hear your story had a happy ending! Very cool build!

Ropanach... that's AWFUL! Your Envoy was beautiful. I'm all bummed out now! Hope it can go back together with the same results as the first time.
I guess this goes to show that those folks that make those time consuming travel boxes may have the right idea... this is awful though! :(

Sorry to hear about the damage to the Envoy as it is avery nice model. :( Nice little Tule trailer you are using. As some one who uses trailers to hual things to regattas and such ( also sell them), I always warn people not to put the models in the trailer! Even with a tamdem axle, there is going to be a bounce of some sort since there are no shocks, like on a car, only suspension. I prefer to put the gear in the trailer, and let the boats ride in the vehicle. :D If you need to put the boats in a trailer, my recomendation to all is build a box with foam padding in/around the models to protect from unnessisary damage. Lessons learned by all of us. Hope you will have that Envoy repaired for the Foss Cup.

I don't think it will be ready for the foss cup, I need to order stering gear from Model Slipways, the gear is too broke up to repair,
What happen was just about 1/8 of a mile from the unloading zone, there was some construction work going on at and around a rail road crossing, for what ever reason they had built a platform about 8"-10" high with a sharp rise going on and going off the other side, if I had seen it I could have prepaird for it, the truck took it fine but the trailor witch was only 7' long seemed to jump over it, and bounced twice. It was all over in seconds.
When I start rebuilding the ENVOY again I will post a thread, the wife said," well now you can make some of the changes you wanted to". I don't remember any changes I wanted to do, but I will as I run into them again.

Thanks for the kind words from all, It does help one to get over what ever one might be feeling about the situation.
I almost had her ready for the FOSS cup but, to much to late.
I havent did a thread of the rebuild, the build thread I thought was more than enuf, there are more things out there that need to be brought out for all to sharpen there skeels than what I have to offer.
