I was playing with some CAT 5E wire yesterday and it got me thinking: has anyone ever tried to modify a length of this wire to make a wiring harness for an RC controlled boat?

Not sure if it would work for carrying servo signals and the wires probably can't carry a lot of current, but it may be useful for running lights, horns, cranes etc.

Any thoughts?

I have used it, it will work well for lights and stuff.
I never tried it with servos, but I would imagine it would work.

Dont use it for any "High Power" applictaions (battery or motor leads) CAT5 is just to small to handle the current I think

I have used it in many low curent multiwire applications like my HO scale RR for building lights and street lamps, It works good. Like Ziobrop said just keep the current down.

Ghost I am pretty sure CAT5 uses 30awg wire, or smaller but not much.

EDIT: Just looked at my CAT5 I'm 99% sure its 30awg, but its pretty dark in here so maybe not.

I use cat5 for phone and computer runs in house wiring. It has four pairs I believe are 24 gauge.
