You know, I considered buying a monster truck instead of the GS Racing
Avenger Storm. I'm really happy with the Avenger but do wonder about
the difference. (I know there is a conversion kit I can get).
Obviously there is quite a public interest in monster trucks as there
is quite a boom in the market for these. Why is that? Is it because
it can tackle most terrains, so that for a regular user there is a lot
of fun in it? How does the speed/ handling rate in comparison to
something like the Avenger?
Also, I noticed monster trucks are called SUV's? Is that correct?
Why?
Cheers,

I'm not sure how much abuse it can take just yet. I went out to a
construction site with mine on the weekend and we set up a jump. It
was mild I must admit (about 1 foot elevation) but it handled it fine.
Some jumps we cleared about 3 metres, but again only with a very short
run up as I didn't want to push it top speeds. There was some nasty
stacks and tumbles but it seemed to handle it fine. As I learn how
much abuse it can take I'll get more adventurous. I didn't want to go
out and do any serious damange on my second go. But I'm not stuck to
flat road as you may think. I went on some pretty savage terrain and
it just carved it up. I have to say I'm pretty happy with the car I
have and its performance to date.
My exact model is below:

In the coming weeks I get a feel for how much this puppy can handle.
I'll keep you posted.

Exactly why my first nitro is going to be a moster truck! :) i couldnt
stand being stuck to flat hard surface.. no jumping what fun is that?
Ive heard of people jumping their trucks at skate parks?? landing it on
rock hard cement? can they handle that sort of abuse?

I know it lands on the grass - but it was perfectly fine (I was driving, my
mate was filming and yelling unhelpful advice - I actually needed to brake
to bring the front end down). It was perfectly OK, I only didn't set off
straight away because I had to run round the side of the park because I
couldn't see it :-)

nice vid Dan but you landed on the wheels can it take a jump that big
and land upside down or sideways?
Braking, accelerating mid air makes a difference to how it lands? I
havent driven an rc car yet and now wont be getting my lst2 till after
i get married end of september :(. need the extra cash for the wedding.

i found this one on google vids they trash the cars there i think
breaking them all. one of them is darn fast driving around on the dirt!

It's landed on it's roof plenty of times. You gotta be careful not to land
on the engine head, but with the rollbar and SUV shell, it's ok on mine.
When you get the LST2 - you MUST invest in a New Era roll bar, it's a 100%
necessity in my view for when landing do go wrong. You're best to land
upside down than, say, on a side on one wheel at an angle, that can snap
things.
As for controlling it in the air, braking makes the front end dive,
accelerating lifts the front end. So, mash the brakes for a front flip,
nail the throttle for a backflip - although you're best to start off just
trying to land it on it's wheels :-)

that thing should do the job a bit expensive, not sure if the stock
shell will still fit ontop of that.

Not a fan of full roll cages myself, I'd just go for one of these -
