Dear All,
I want to buy a composite airframe for UAV research (I have developed autopilot system, and tested in several balsa airframe). The flight characteristic is expected to be near fixed wing trainer. Wing span 2-3 meters. Will be gasoline engine powered. Maximum budget will be around 2500 US$.
Any suggestion?
Thank's

is it possible to have a flyable airframe of this size made of composites? Are there any existing examples?

I've been asked to edit this post by the moderator(s). Is it my fault if some folks cant accept a little honest criticism?
If this isn't good enough for the "offended" poster and/or moderator then I'm more than happy to stop sharing my knowledge and experience (500+ posts to date with no complaints) with the RCG comunity.
So, to restate my comments, in terms more befitting their impact on someone of an obviously "sensitive" disposition...
As someone who is in a position to know such things (by dint of much experience), I believe the website in question is not faulty but suffers from an unforgivable oversite insomuch as it is built entirely from a Flash applet.
This applet takes an eternity to load, even on my broadband connection.
The result is that the company concerned has probably lost significant interest and possibly even sales to those who have had exactly the same experience as the poster who saw nothing but a blank screen.
Whoever is responsible for the commissioning or creation of such a website should reconsider their abilities and position in the company.
And the next time a moderator decides to give me a warning because someone with just 8 posts to their name has their nose put out of joint by the statement of a few simple (but perhaps not tactfully stated) facts, I'll find somewhere else to share my experience and knowledge -- life's too short!
And yes, I'd rather have posted this to the moderator privately but the moderation system provides no such mechanism -- the warnings have no reply address.

that is a particularly bad web site. Not only is it flash, but then all of the links bring up PDFs. PDF has to be the number one reason for broken browsers nowadays, I can't count the number of times I've had to kill the acrobat process or kill the browser because of a PDF.
It acually looks pretty interesting

I'm happy to see that the website police are available here..
To the individual saying "some idiot", I dont care being called an idiot, I advise you apologize immediately sir.
fyi, we are in the preliminary stages of a new website, the author is away for 2 weeks and no changes will be made.. I agree it sucks using PDF and flash that takes forever, but he threw this together before leaving because we have a show coming up and he'll be in the hospital for a week or two.
This will be resolved asap.. thanks for the comments, although some comments are just a bit on the angry beaver side ...
Mr. X Jet I could find a few choice names to call you, but I'll refrain. although you are quite correct about what you said about the website on RC Groups, you made comments that I dont care for, for instance "some idiot", kick on the backside etc..
I want a formal apology or I go to the moderator and get you kicked off for flaming.
For someone that apparently knows about the web, you certainly lack in eloquence when it comes to communicating your message.. I suggest that no reply would be better than your reply until you get your anger issues under control.
And for the other person expressing that its an exceptionally bad site..
Have you been to our original site? we are trying to improve our image, do you really think that being a DOD contractor we would let the website be completely un-user friendly and expect to get business from it?
You guys need to relax..

to which I reply by quoting you...

By the way, I call a spade a spade and I get paid very handsomely for my communication skills -- possibly because I keep things accurate and consise. Just ask the long list of multi-nationals who have retained my services as a consultant.
N'uff said - this is getting OT.

Back to original question...
Does anyone know if these companies offer a commercially available bare airframe in the <$2000 range?
Repeated attempts to contact them via email have failed - which would prohibit me from doing business with them anyway - but I am curious if there are such options out there.
TIA,
-M

Dear Sir or Madame:
Please visit this NASA Center's Web Site and specifically this link as this Center has already been involved in many projects that pertain to Civilian applications to UAV.

Please feel free to contact the project manager should you still have any questions.

I recognize that as the RNR products UAV plane. They won't meet your cost. I doubt you could get an empty airframe from them for under $10,000.00. I hope to be wrong for your sake though.

RnR is showing a picture of the Australian "Aerosonde" in that ad you have there. According to Dr, Greg Holland of Aerosonde, they had RnR build the first airframe to their specs but didn't continue with RnR as the builder.
http://www.aerosonde.com/drawarticle/42
The airframe NASA used there is also an RnR design based on the SBX glider wing. You can see the RnR logo on the fuselage side of one of the pictures you posted. I don't see it on their site right now though. Maybe someone bought the rights. Here's another picture of it being used in Idaho at Ineel several years back. It's not a real new design but looks good.

In fact the RnR logo in the picture from the Aerosonde plane you posted has the same RnR company logo which is prominently displayed on the fuselage of the NASA plane landing in picture 1 above.

Try out Genesis Hobbies at www.genesis-hobbies.com. They have a variety of airframes available within your budget especially some newer ones not on the website such as the 'Border Eagle' 3m twin-boom all-composite airframe. Airframes are sold complete with engine/servos or bare bones ready to paint.
