Can I use my DX6 as a controller in FMS? If so does anyone have a cable schematic? So I can make up a cable for it please.

You should be able to use any of the circuits marked as being for JR transmitters.

Just get a 3.5mm mono-to-mono jack cable, and use SmartPropoPlus.

I actually just used a stereo plug.. The same one that usually connects your speakers to your computer... 1/8" on each end.

Stereo may work, but the JR plug is mono. My JR buddy box cable only has 2 conductors. Also, see the diagram from the Transmitter Connections link on the Smart Propo Plus web site:

JimYes, all the connections only use two conductors - I agree. But my JR made serial port adapter cable has a three conductor plug for the TX, and that's specifically for TX to computer use. BTW, look at the plug in this link from the same website: http://www.customelectronics.co.uk/fmspic.htm

I'm not following - If I get a 3.5mm stereo-to-stereo plug or mono- to-mono plug what am i plugging this into on the computer? I thought I had to plug into a USB port?

Just get a 3.5mm mono-to-mono jack cable, and use SmartPropoPlus.
You connect it to your audio input (e.g. microphone).
SmartPropoPlus will take care of the rest.

Pretty slick. I will give this a try tonight. Thanks.

Do I select PPM or PCM for use with the DX6?

I'd start with PPM (Auto detect) -> PPM positive -> PPM negative -> PCM (JR)
If none work, please let me know and I'll try to sort this out.

Well:

I hooked it all up, but had no luck. FMS recognizes the Smartproplus joystick in the "resources" section. It shows "active" and "6 axis". When I go to mapping/calibration it shows solid blue bars for all the channels and moving the sticks has no effect. I am plugged into the "line in" on the audio panel - per the instructions.

check the volume of the input .. you only need a small amount.

As mentioned in the instructions:
Click on the SmartPropoPlus icon in the tray (Near the clock on the bottom-right of the screen) and make sure that you have selected the Line-In option.

I checked all of that and no go. I get the buzzing through my speakers, but stick movements have no effect. When I moce the sticks, the pitch of the buzzing changes very slightly.

Where can I find the link to this freeware? Thanks Shaul ei for being so generous with your time.

Steve,

I just hooked up FMS with my Spektrum. It did the same thing as yours. I had sound but the controls didn't work. First, make sure the SmartPropoPlus files are in the FMS directory. Mine unzipped but had to be manually copied to the FMS directory under Program Files. Next, start FMS and look for the SmartPropoPlus icon in the system tray. That tells you it loaded. Then you need to calibrate the controller in FMS. Go to Controls, select Analog Control, select Mapping/Calibration, move your sticks around to figure out which channel is which. I had to change all channel assignments. Follow the calibration instructions and you'll be set. Good luck!

Unfortunately, the sticks have no response in the mapping/calibration screen. Perhaps it is a sound card issue or perhaps I don't have the right cable.

I may try uninstalling all the software and re-installing just to be sure.

Perhaps. I am using a stereo cable I had at the office. It worked fine. I'll try to remember to take my mono JR buddy box cord to see whether it works too. Try different inputs if you have them. Mine wouldn't work on the microphone input but worked on the line input.

Mike,

I'm out of town until Tuesday. I'll look and report back when I get back to town.

Mike,
I have Rudder on channel 1, elevator on 2, aileron on 3 and throttle on 4. I've checked expo for aileron and elevator to keep it the same as my normal setup. I assume that Inv means servo reversing. I don't have any of those boxes checked.

Once you get the channels assigned, you need to click the Calibrate button and follow the instructions. Mine works great. Don't forget to try all possible inputs if you have more than one. Mine didn't work with the microphone input, but works perfectly with the line in input. Good luck.

Jim
