I have given up on larger size VTOL for now due to difficulty in getting a good counter rotating props at the size needed (though if I go gass I would just use Zinger props) and now I am shrinking things down a bit focusing on using the 10x4.5 counter rotating props from Todds models.

I am now looking for a high efficiency motor that weighs as little as possible.

I am also looking for a 20amp controller that has rpm govenor mode and weighs under 20grams. I can go to around 15grams if I loose the govenor mode.

My current curiousity is the Hacker A20/22L it weighs 2oz and supposedly can turn a 10x5.

I know everyone hear uses the AXI but they are just so heavy I feel any increase efficiency is lost to additional weight.

I have even considered the PJS 1200 for this very reason.

Another Motor is the hacker A30.

Has this been beaten to death and AXI came out on top.

Any other Motors.

P.S. I have seen people use two props for a 4 blade system any Thoughts on this.

Is this the pjs counter rotating unit you were talking about:
http://www.visionhobbies.com/1149857.html

It has counter rotating 8x6 props not 10x4.5. 1100g of thrust on 3sLipo at a weight 140g, doesn't sound to bad to me.

Is there a better unit?

Tuner,

I'm using the same props on a "Flying Flapjack" and also on a "TriCopter". I use a GWS IPS-C(8.6:1) gearbox with a Feigao 1208436L + GWS heatsink or the hotter Feigao 1208428L + GWS heatsink. The weight for the gearbox, motor, heatsink, propsaver, prop combination is about 1.35 oz. Peak current drain is 3.5 to 6.5 A; and peak static thrust is 14.5 to 18.5 oz. To me, its a winning combination for the 10x4.5 and 10x4.5R props. BTW, I use a separate CC Phoenix 10 for each motor.
