Dear Everyone,

Please welcome to join this new platform, for a FULL SEC UAV Project. :)

Gumstix is Software Embedded Control, so its exactly the advance solution!

We can build this easy upgradeable UAV system together here, as an Open Source!

I would be suprise, if its not turnout to be better than the other two !
Xbow- MNAV $1719 (USD) / O-Navi - Phoenix $ 9XX !
And we're not even using Kalman Filter !!

Our system will be far better, more accurate & flexible! :D

http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/full-uav-sec

Together we could have a complete system, in 6 months.

we only need to map sensors to connect Gumstix, convert formula to program!
Ground control: Glass Cockpit (Open source)

Idea & Outline, (Module)
PXA 255 Hardware design,
Algorithms & Programming,...

Sonar Alti., Digital Compass, Expansion Interface, CAN Bus, Motor controller,-
Temperature, Servos --------------------> Gumstix -----> GPS
IMU, Pressure, Airspeed, ----> ADC’s --------> Gumstix -----> Comms Radio

Look forward to start task allocation!

Be a part of it, & Have fun together !

Yes UAV as open source is a good idea but not always. It has plusses and minuses too. Personally I always supported open source projects and even paid for some of them but with full scale UAV will have some questions. Result should be good enough for modelers and hobbyists but not good for not properly system use. Technically speaking it is not a problem to build small, cheap UAV and fly across Atlantic but it is not what most people will ever want to build. So design should be good but limited from the beginning, limited by range, accuracy, altitude, cost… name it… – just for hobby use.

I would suggest starting talking about system parameters and results to achieve. What you personal project vision?

You are speaking of the Paparazzi project!
Google them it works with gumstix infact gumstix might be producing a new hardware platform for the paparazzi project with dual cpu's....

Dont reinvent the wheel hear.

Yeah jszeto, Tuner is right. What you are speaking of has already been done on the open-source Paparazzi project. Check out www.nongnu.org/paparazzi or come talk to us by joining channel #paparazzi on irc.freenode.net.

Tuner Jeff,

The paparazzi site doesn't have any info. Some of the links are dead end. Maybe it's just too complicated for my old brain.

They did talk about a system with less than 50K of code. I'd like to see a system with less than 2K of code.

The Standalone Waypoint Sensor has been a very successful project. Nothing wrong with reinventing the wheel. We do it everytime we design a model airplane.

They are working on things the new version is being worked on. This is an open source community so it requires a level of proactivity. It can be very confusing but I have found the community to be a great help answer my stupid question I know they have answered before.

I agree the site has useful informatin but it does require a high level of proactiveness on ones part. Not very 1 2 3 step hold your hand yet.

They are working on just that this is why I am so interested and supportive of the project see the wiki they are building:
http://www.recherche.enac.fr/paparazzi/doc/

Also try them on IRC if you dont have it get it this is invaluable.
channel: #paparazzi
server: irc.freenode.net

I know of no other project even close to their level of organization. But please somone prove me wrong;)

Another limitation of the Paparazzi project is that they only use thermopiles for attitude correction. Yes, they are working (or are some day going to be working) on an inertial system, but I will not hold my breath.

I do not think it will be too long before the RCAP/waypoint sequencer/generic FMA Co-Pilot setup will rival the Paparazzi project, and probably be easier to implement from the start.

I am not in any way disparaging the Paparazzi group, and I hope, like the rest of us, that some of the things they have been attempting for the last several years someday come to fruition. I am also not disagreeing that, for now, there's not a lot of other options when it comes to open source autopilots.

This is not true with the new version of paparazzi it will have support for INS AHRS type modules they even show one they made.

Their are a few alternatives to the paparazzi project but as luke said not to many open source ones where you can bounce ideas off people and get help and support for free.

This alone is worth everything to me.

This is not true with the new version of paparazzi it will have support for INS AHRS type modules they even show one they made.In fact his has been my understanding as well; however, this new version is not available so far as I know, there is no code or schematics posted, and given that it's been talked about for years, I'm only saying that it very well may be several years still before it is available.

Simply Go onto IRC they will supply you with all beta code and even help you with constructing the hardware if you have that capability. Gumstix should be producing the hardware at some point in the future.

Hay these guys are working on it daily it could be organized a little better but everyone is focused on the new version 3.

What do you plan to use in lieu of a Kalman Filter?

"Software Embedded - UAV"

Gumstix have got new modules for UAV's application! So the project is looking better, as with Bluetooth, WiFi, SD, Blox's GPS! There is little a programmer have joined the project, we are now starting to begin ! Both of us are confident, people are gonna be interested to this exciting project. Also more valuable peoples will join the development! Which would hopefully takes less than 6 months :)

If I could contribute I would but I am still a novice for these things but if i think in the future I have something useful to contribute I can call you

But keep us posted as you progress and if possible blow by blow accounts and documents with code old code reworked code succesful code so some others can learn as you go along
after alll knowing what dosnt work is often more useful than knowing what works for similar projects

I don't find any progress. Is your project still going?
