This is my toy for the 4'th of July. For those of you who remember the little carbide cannons as a kid, here is one on steriods. The barrel is made out of 6", 4", 3" PVC pipe and is 6' long. It doesn't shoot anything but delivers one HELL of a bang to say the least. It's not a boom or a bang, it's an expolsion. It can be heard indoors over 1-1/2 miles away thru the subdivision. Most of my neighbors like it and ask me if I will be shooting it off on the 4'th and the answer is always YES.

Here are a few others http://www.toycannons.ray-vin.com/bigguns/bigguns.htm

Longbike,

There is a 6" PVC "Y" at the back end of the barrel before the breech plug. The "Y" holds about a gallon of water. In the top, above the water there is a touch hole where I pour in 1 teaspoon of powdered calcium carbide. The two mix and the result is acetelyne gas. Remember high school chemistry class. In the back of the barrel are two sharpened brass bolts trhat are connected to a piezo electric barbeque ignitor. The bolts act as the spark gap to set things off. Give it about 8 to 10 seconds for the gas to form and fill the barrel and push the ignitor. You don't even hear the ignitor go click. It will make your ears ring and you will feel the concussion on your chest.

As for the magazine, I got my copy in the mail and there she was in all her glory.

65535,

Since the cannon is made out of PVC it won't shoot anything. If you tried to the PVC would shatter. Now if it was made out of steel, that would be a different story.

Steel Steel Steel Pvc works well for air powered cannons.

The only thing this has shot is when we hung a baseball cap over the end of the barrel and fired it. It shot the cap about 70' and the only thing left was the bill. I have tried to capture the muzzle flash on video several times but the flash is faster than 1 frame of video. I do know of at least a 7' long flame in the daylight that I caught on video once.
