ok, heres a good one and since it is in my AC convertion the big E i'll ask here too.
its all so in my RC semi truck and there is how i found that others have it all so.
the ESC is a futaba MC230CR. in nutral no noice. when powered yp F/R it wines. does any one know why. the carrier has two small MACK motors and the truck has one larger motor.

wingy, DO NOT WORRY, I have m-tronics esc's and an MPI tornado and they all whine. the whine, i think, is the pulsing of the current to the motor and is perfectly normal. its not the esc whining, but the motor whining at low power where the esc is not delivering enough current to spin the motor up.

it will not do any harm to the motor or the esc,

ok ghost, but it sure plays hell with the sound unit, can't hear the deasel engine sound.

Different motors react differently to different ESC's. It has to do with the switching frequency of the ESC, armature mass, motor's winding inductance, mass of motor can and a few other things. The motor is actually amplifying the ESC's switching frequency. If it is that annoying then try a different ESC or motor. Otherwise no worries.

No problem, I tried not to get too technical.

I haven't tried this yet but THINK it would work- put a flywheel on the shaft, like model trains use. Should deaden the armature's response to the pulsing current from the ESC.

may work, :) sounds interesting :) any word on the texaco boat that went down? yes i know its off topic

Maybe if I post a reward, some kid will fish it out. I tried dragging a grapple for it, no luck.

Dude, if you could get ESC's to make wine you would be a miracle worker! :D

Some of my ESC's whine also. Or more exactly, give off a high frequency pitch when the throttle position is low. You have to have sensitive hearing to be able to hear that wingnut163!

kmot, this is not a HIGH frequencey pitch and its in all power fases. its not wile its in low, it all range of both foward and reverse F/R. and i do have sensitive hearing. can hear a trafic light relays change a block away. any way i'm not the only one, 4 or 5 guys on the truck form have it and they want to get ridd of it so they can hear there sound modual, it hides the deasel sound.

and kmot, you should not make fun of an old man who spells phoeneticly. and if you lived closser i would invite you over for a taste..white or red?

lol wing! I make fun of everyone, including myself! ;) If I didn't like ya' I wouldn't participate in your threads! :)

Anyway, I'll have white. :D

Okay, seems like your ESC is a real pain in the eardrums. I have several different brands of ESC's that I have used, but never a Futaba. Some make that high frequency whine like you describe. But I can't imagine it overpowering the sound of a diesel module in a Tamiya big rig!

Have you tried a different loudspeaker? One with a lower ohm rating and sensitivity? Might play louder than the esc whine. Just an idea.....

LOL LOL LOL< yea, i do the same. no bad feelings here :censored:
i'll pass the idea along but theres not to much room in there as you probably know. sounds like you have had or have one. are you on any forms?

well wingy, Kmot, nothing wrong with a bit of friendly banter, now mines a pinacolada if ya got one.

now back to the whines, just rewired an RTR tug, the two viper 15's give no whines at all, and the motors are small, id imagine 280s

wingnut, about the speaker I did not mean to suggest a larger speaker. No, same size diamter. But different power and sensitivity rating.

I.E. some speakers won't play well until you pump a crapload of RMS watts into them and only once they get enough power will they play decently. Those are high power and low sensitivity speakers.

On the other hand, speakers designed for low RMS watts and High sensitivity play much louder with much less power. If you pump too much power into them though, they get distorted sounding and can blow the windings on the magnet.

If I understand correctly, the whining from the ESC is picked up by the amplifier that powers the diesel sound module, or by the soundmodule itself.

Have you tried to use seperate powersources for the ESC and the module, thus seperating them electrically?

This may or may not work, as the sound module is probably triggered from your receiver, which in turn is connected with the ESC...

Regards, Jan.

i don't have a sound mod, some of them have it. i have the whine. and the others who have it i do not know how many have sound.

One solution to the whine affecting the sound module is to put a 'choke' in the (+) lead, one in the (-) lead wouldn't hurt either. A 'choke' is a multiturn coil of a small size, maybe about the diameter of a pencil. They sort of 'smooth' out a DC ripple which causes the whine. An electronics supply house or Radio Shack ought to have them, usually a dollar or so, maybe. It may require more than just one or two. The only precaution is that they do get sort of large, about like a transformer, so pay attention.
A whining ESC is a result of the frequency at which the thing works. The lower frequency ones, the cheaper ones, you will hear. The higher frequency ones you shouldn't be able to hear, and shouldn't interfere with other electronics. (Just tell'em the whine is the super charger on the motor!)
