I converted it a couple of months ago. Make a search. I used an Axi 5330-18 with 8S. Slightly underpowered. I need to upgrade the ESC and go to 9S or 10S eventually. I have the CG pretty far back and there is quite a bit of elevator / rudder coupling

I use the PQ PQ-3100 (275g for 4S) in 8S2P, I use the Funtaba Digital servos S3152 (42g / 1.5 oz. for all surfaces but the rudder and a strong Hitec (forgot the type) for the rudder.

have fun - the plane does look real nice - you just got to love biplanes. Let me know if you also find the rudder coupling issue.

How about using a voltage regulator and a 2s lipo pack, simple light enough and all the amps those servos will need.you could use 2s1320 prolite, or 2s 2100 prolite.

Im about to pull the trigger on this plane :)
What are you guys doing for a BEC for this many large digital servos?
4ea JR 9411
2ea JR 811
1ea Hitec 5625
7 largeish digitals is a lot more than I have run on any of my BEC's so far.
Larry
I am using voltage regulators from Smart-Fly (www.smart-fly.com) with great success all the way through my 40% models. I'd recommend this one (http://www.smart-fly.com/Products/Regulator/1.htm). Beauty of this setup is that you can use a 2 cell Li-Poly and dial the voltage to suit your setup.

P.S. Appearantly its not ok to disagree with RCU folks editorial policy. I posted my disatisfaction with the link removal and my decision not to post any more and the entire post was sumarily deleted.
I'm not particularly surprised. Sort of like trying to promote one company's product (a forum) in another company's lobby and parking lot. Bound to create problems. FWIW, I find the management, and more importantly the contributors to be much more friendly on this site than on RCU. I find my somewhat reserved and reasoned responses fall on deaf ears on RCU. Too rational maybe - I just don't fit in all that well over there. I wouldn't worry about it. I certainly don't :)

Sign up on FlyingGiants.com, there's a lot of people that will be interested in your build thread and will give you some very good advise, no attitude. What I like about that website is they don't care what you fly, from indoor foamies to 50% gassers, it's all about having fun. Don't get me wrong, I love RCG, that's why I'm a member here, but like I said, no attitude over there and a great group of flyers. If you haven't already, check it out.

Looks like fun Larry! I don't have the Ultimate, but am flying their 79" Cap with a DA-50 (gasp! :)) on it, and the performance is unreal. I was somewhat surprised at the light weight and quality from the latest run of Great Planes models. It really is very good - much better than the heavy ARF's of the past. Your Ultimate should be great. Good luck!

To see if the spinner is a true turn look inside the cone from the rear. It is stamped into the aluminum on the backside near the center hole. A YS120 adaptor kit fits the Hacker and they are available at your LHS.

Larry,
Keep an eye on the CA hinges.
People over on the 'other' thread have reported some failures with the stock hinge material, particularly the tail feathers. You should be fine on the ailerons.
I used the blue 1/4 scale "Pro" hinges from WWW.RadioSouthRC.com in this configuration.

Larry,
How much are your elevator servos flutter 1/16", more...? It is not uncommon on digitals to get this type of "fluttering". Also when the elevators are move with your tx does the flutter stop?

We are talking 3/4" each way at least. It was pretty violent. Definately not the normal digital buzzing type thing. Moveing the stick to full would stop it, but going back to center fast would start it up again.
Larry
Copy that Larry, your right sounds like something more than the normal dig. buzz.

Be careful there. More throw means less mechanical advantage for the servos. ie less force they an apply to the surface. Also more sloppiness which encourages flutter. I'd mechanical down to recommended throws.

A good friend taught me to start with the end points out as far as possible so you get the most out of the servo then hook up the mechanical. That will give you the most resolution and stiffest control possible.

Thats about a pound UNDER the average gas weight.
Its gonna float like a foamie ;)

Very cool! I came in at 14 with a DA-50 on the Cap, which is incredibly light, so I figured your Ultimate would come in light. Makes me yearn for two wings!!!

I have always used a rx pack for my larger models. The weight is a non-issue and it doesn't get any simpler than a 6V pack of cells..

A guy at my club has one of these that's powered by some kind of high dollar gas twin. It's a beautiful flying airplane that has a presence in the air that has to be experienced to be believed. While seeing the photos is cool it just doesn't do the real model justice. The guy who owns/flies the one at my club field is an awesome pilot and all around good guy with one fault. He's a card carrying glow only, electric hater. I'd love to see his reaction if one of you guys showed up with a 3,000 watt electric version of his beloved Ultimate and powered by him at full throttle! :D

If you are using standard not digital servos they actually use very little power. As you experienced, I too have flown multiple flights using a 1600 mah nimh pack running 4 standard servos. The pack went up at 6.7 V and ended the day at 6.4 or so.

I gave up R/C years ago because I had a series of bad events, reciever intermitant crashes
I hope it can be repaired, I have ben following your thread with a lot of intrest, just not enough biplanes in the electric forum . And I was just starting to get excited by your flight reports
Hope you can rebuild it or get another
