Something is telling me that I shouldn't be building boats this year. A month ago I shot myself in the right hand with a nail gun. It's healed over now but it still hurts when I grab something tightly. Yesterday on the way home from work some dumb yutz in a big hurry cuts in front of me to make a left hand turn and you guessed it, he doesn't make it. We collide, I spin him around blowing every window out of his car. I end up spining around also, end up going sideways and laying my new 3 week old work van on the drivers side skidding down the pavement and coming to a rest against a traffic light pole. Besides the road rash on my left arm, cuts from the broken window, bump on the head, stiff elbows and wrists, I end up with a broken left wrist. Something is telling me not to spend time with my hobby, boats.
Sorry, I just had to vent.
P.S.-- The pain killers are working great.

Dang,
Sorry to hear a yutz caused such a horiffic accident.
I am glad you are able to come around and vent. At least you can do that.
I hope you get a big insurance settlement too.
Maybe then you can just sit around and recuperate, and build boats....

green-boat,
Having been there and done that about a year ago, I know exactly how you feel (wish I didn't!). I think Umi has it covered, the idea about the boats helping fill up some time, you'll be glad for that. Do what the doctors say, at least most of the time...

Ah man, that really sucks! :(
Well, like Umi said at least you are still able to post a vent. Could have been much worse. What happened to the yutz? Probably got up and walked away unscathed?

Thanks for all the replies and kind words. It could have been worse, my arm could have gotton between the van and pavement and turned into hamburger. Not a pretty sight, I'll take the cuts and scrapes anyday. As for the yutz, they took him off to a different hospital in an ambulance. At the scene he was sitting upright and dazed but no signs of blood. They took me to another hospital by my request only because my wife works there and they take care of their own a little better. My eldest son went by the scene afterwards and said that all the windows were blown out of his 92 Camry from the force of the impact.
My companys insurance rep called me for the details and said that the yutz is disputing that the accident was not his fault. Can you believe that, there are signs saying "left turn yield on green" and he crossed two lanes.

Ouch man. I just lost my 2002 suburban to an idiot. A dump truck ran the red, said he couldn't stop, and T boned me. I then spun out and and hit a Loomis Fargo Armored truck. I hit the two biggest things in the world. My entire passenger side of the truck was gone, all caved in and just destroyed. I was ok, but the two people in the passenger side weren't, one is still in the hospital and it been over a month now. I feel your pain.

Maybe I misquoted myself when I said that it could have been worse. It could have been MUCH worse. I had my 4 year old son (my little buddy) in the passenger seat. If the van had rolled the other way..... I don't want to think of what could have happened. Once I managed to get the electric window down, I tried to get him untangled from the seatbelt but I ended up cutting the seatbelt to free him. From there I handed him up to a couple of people who had stopped and were waiting to take him out of the cab. He was just shaken up, with no cuts or broken bones... thank god. The following day a bruise the size of a dime showed up on his lower belly where I guess came from the seatbelt.

When I start driving it will be interseting. In rivine Southern california speed limits are 55-65 on 2-4 lane streets. People do maybe 10 mph over the limit commonly. I should be fun.

Thanks again everyone for the thoughts and kind words.
ronmeister,
Percoset's don't phase me. They gave me Vicodin but that will just take the edge off. Now Vicodin ES on the other hand will take the pain completely away. I just double up on the regular Vicodin, which is the same as the ES. I just have to remember to take them with food or they make me sick.
Longbike,
It looks like I may be getting my old van back till my new one gets fixed, only 3 weeks old. If you want to see the new one, it's over at Elco Chevorlet sitting outside the bodyshop. I went over there this morning to get some stuff out of it. I still have to make another trip to get the remaining. It looks like the rear axle shaft snapped letting the wheel go under and causing the van to roll on it's side.
As for Tom, no I hadn't heard. That might explain the refusal to being re-elected to Admiral due to health problems. Tom wasn't at the last club meting. You're right about Tom, he is the club. I hope everything goes well for him.
I'll have to get a copy or two or three of the ship's in scale magazine. The boss lady won't believe it if I just tell her. It will be something more that I can "rub it in".

A moment of silence please.............
I found out today that the insurance company has totaled my new van. Only 3 weeks old with 2500 miles on it. Tomorrow I will be spending the day cleaning it out and removing the shelving. For some strange reason my work had been dragging their feet on getting rid of my old van. I've got my old van back, at least I have something to drive.

I have a question did he get the ticket if so and you plan on sueing him do not show up late for the court date. This is what happened to me. I was heading down a five lane road two lane each way and center rush hour traffic backed up As I come along I hit my left blinker got in turn lane the traffic in both thru lanes was stopped the a hole in the fast lane waved a old man out of Myers the guy gassed it and hit me head on he never seen it coming he was looking to see that traffic was cleared so he could merge after turning out I was in a van he was in a little foreign car I did not have seat belt on so I locked my arms out and locked breaks up bam his air bags went of I got wiplashed but never hit window or stearing wheel my right arm went totally num could not feel it to this day my neck is screwed uparm seems to have healed this was 15 years ago. There was an under cover cop somewhere behind me that seen the whole thing unfold the officier asked me if I wanted an ambulance I said heck no Im not going for an $800.00 dollar ride the undercover cop told the other offiecer that the other guy was at falt for failure to yeild right of way. So he got the ticket. I was planning on sueing him so I could get my neck and arm fixed because I have no health ins. So I have been to court many times for traffic violations when I used to have a fast car and know that you always wind up sitting for 30minutes waiting to see the judge. On the day of the court date I was running a bit late I was not more than ten minutes late to the court when I went to sign in
the lady told me that the hearing was over and his ticket was dismissed I couldnt belive it I was Pissed off I said you got to be mistaking. and explained you never get in front of the judge that quick. I think he knew someone on the inside. she told me sir the case has been dismissed again and that he is already gone so with out proof that it was his fault no chancr to sue him and left never persued it any further. So like I say if he got the ticket make sure your on time . Dave

As of today, no tickets have been issued that I know of. I haven't recieved any medical, towing, ambulance ride or x-ray bills yet but I'm sure they will be coming. I'm waiting for my work to get a copy of the accident report from the police so I can get a copy of it so I can see what is on it. I lost days from work, the boss lady lost days, I ended up taking my 4 year old to a pediatric hospital due to him throwing up the next day (the hospital that they took us to doesn't really have a full pediatric department) and for the past few nights the little one has been having reoccuring nightmares about the accident. Also this thing wrapped around my wrist is very annoying.
Back in 1986 I was rearended by a kid and I settled for lost work and my medical bills. I ened up with a bad case of whiplash that I suffered with for nine years and a totaled out car. I look back and realize just how stupid I really was.
I think a lawyer will be needed this time, I've learned my lesson.

Well I hope he gets a ticket it will help your case. Ya I was stupid for not getting ther on time. But it was kinda last minute decision. after seeing that the pain in my neck was not going away I usually take mt lumps but about a day before the prelim. I decided I would try to sue. The first thing I should have done was contacted a lawyer. If it ever happens again I surely will. Hope your boy is feeling better soon. Watch out for those vicodin there very addictive a friend got in a rel bad crash he was taking for pain which turned into addiction he would eat 10- HP at a time not good for the body he just recentally quit. hope your case goes well. Green- boat, The other reason to get a lawyer is that depending on who this guy knows or listens to, you may get a notice someday out of the blue that YOU are being sued. Believe me it happens. Happened to my father a year after a minor accident. By then medical records, police records, all that you need are either gone or real hard to find. Take pictures of the bruise on your sons tummy, anything you can document and get a lawyer for your own protection. Good luck.

Yes most definitly. I was concerned about this happining to me. Thats why I didnt try to sue him after dismissed the ticket. They could have tryed to turn it around and make me look like the bad guy. Dave

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, but I'm happy to hear your arm WASN"T between the car and the ground -- that usually renders them useless!
BTW, you can always pick the guilty party out of the crowd -- he's the one making the most noise when it's time to take care of business!!!

Well it's been about 4 weeks since the accident and I have good news. I finally received a copy of the police report and it's official, the other driver failed to yield. He admitted in the report that he was too far into the intersection and then darted across trying to make a left turn. There was also a witness statement confirming this who was in the car behind the YUTZ. Now all I need to do is get all the bills together, submit them and ask for a settlement and if they don't like it then it's lawyer time.
If that's not enough, now I have to get a list together of all the spoiled food that went bad from having no electricity for 4 days after the rash of storms last week. The storm also knocked down about 30' of 6' high wooden fence, sheared the posts off at the ground.

Geenboat,at least you do have power now.I cant believe theres STILL thousands of poeple without power or phone service!!For those in other parts of the world,a series of strong storms hit the St Louis,Mo area last week and over 580,000 people lost power and some lost there homes.Thats 580,000 people without electricity with temperatures around 100 and humi-temp around 115.Surprisingly,only 9 people have died because of the heat,so far.A 60 foot section of the roof at the airport was riped off and landed on interstate 70.Thousands of trees down.I cant believe it didnt get national new coverage.Greenboat, are you going to be at the regatta and what are you bringing??You have to get back to boatbuilding because I like to see you stuff!!

Tim,
The boss lady will have that weekend off so I WILL be at the Regatta. As for boats, nothing new but I will be bringing the usual unless time comes to a complete halt and I can get caught up on things, HA, HA. I hope to find some time to get the lighting touched up on the boats for the night run though. I missed it last year and I regret it.
Now for the what can happen next update.....
Last Friday my daughter ended up downloading some nasty stuff onto the home computer that redirects the browser and has a zillion pop-ups. You can't delete them fast enough. I've spent the last 4 days trying to rid the computer of the bad seeds, some of them being Surf Sidekick and Qoologic. What a mess, thought I had it licked this morning until I woke up to 7 Yahoo browsers and 14 Internet Explorer browsers open along with a bunch of ads. Wish me luck on my quest tonight.

Use a "Panicware Pop up stopper" to prevent the flood.
Also a scan online using "Trend Micro" online virus and Malware scanner can help you clean up the computer also.
If you are using XP go to my computer > Properties, and turn off the registry back up until you are finished cleaning up the computer and have gotten a nice clean boot.

I did find a bunch of dialers that need to get run out of town also. WWWCoolsearch is one that I'm having trouble with deleting it. With that being said, I will give your suggestion a try this evening Umi, thanks.

I really, really, really didn't want to reopen this thread but guess what........
(refer to post #1)
Thats right some lady pulled out in front of (into) me today as I was going 60 MPH down the highway from a side road  . To make things more fun it was raining which caused me to fishtail down the highway then down into the ditch doing the same. I was doing good until a highway sign came up and bit the side of the van slamming into the mirror and slamming it into window breaking it. Glass everywhere. Finally came to rest about a 1/4 mile from the initial impact site sideways in the ditch. What saved me from rolling the van this time was that the ground was soaked and muddy allowing the van to just sliiiiiiiiiiide along. Didn't break any bones or even get cut. :) Hey, any accident you can walk away from is a good one.
The other car, a Subaru Forrester, well lets say its missing the front bumper, grill and headlights. She and her daughter were'nt hurt, a bit shook up though. She did say that she never saw me......... a big white van with it's lights on. Hmmmmmm

Tim, Green boat, the last accident I had was three years ago, when a concrete paving block came off a landscape truck, and smacked dead center into my windshield at 65 mph---.
My left windshield wiper arm deflected the paver from coming through, which would have probably killed me. ;)
