hello everyone.
i have never posted in this section so go easy on me. i have seen a few videos of pulse jets that people have made and they look very cool. They seem like a good project to pursue. there seem to be many different types out there that people have built and i am confused on things. How hard are the different types to build? could anyone point me in a good direction for p[lans, ideas. etc.. what do you need to build them, tools. ,materials, things to get it to run. i have a lot of metalworking tools, ;athes, saws, drills. i am not blowing smoke here. i would like to make one just for novelty. i know i have waht it takes to build one, I juts need somone to point me i the right direction. Maybe someone who has buot one could help me? thankyou to anyone who could reply withsome help.

Dynaflite made the only commercially available model pulse jet that I've ever seen. It was marketed eons ago by America's Hobby Center in New York. Check out Ebay for a possible source.
Back in the early 90's I talked to a guy from Germany that brought a 1/4 scale twin pulsejet powered Me-262 to one of the early giant scale meets in Las Vegas. There was a "money guy" that spoke broken English and I spoke broken German. He had an ancient looking assistant with him that spoke only German. The money guy owned a steel mill in Germany. His assistant was his chief engineer from the steel plant. I asked about the pulse jets and he pulled out some plans and my eyes went wide open. The plans were a blueprint of the original V1 "Buzz Bomb" pulse jet engine. The steel mill engineer was the designer of the V1 pulse jet engine!! I asked them how they throttled the engines because as far as I knew the V1 operated wide open until it ran out of gas. He opened the cowl to reveal 2 off the shelf aerobatic smoke oil pumps that were controlled by off the shelf electric r/c speed controllers. He used a Multiplex radio of course. The plane was bungee launched by two 25 foot long bungee cords. I watched in amazement the first successful flight. They told me it was the maiden flight. The second flight had a flameout in one of the pulse jet engines during launch, and crash and burned spectacularly due to Vmc controlability problems. The huge fireball was caught on film and featured on the cover of R/C modeler. They told me they were going to publish the 1/4 scale plans for the pulse jet. That was the last I ever saw or heard from them.

thats pretty cool how he had the plans for the v1. One of the links above sems like i can make some sense of it-they do not seem too hard to build. thanks for the replies!!

Soon, my bro is going to put his design on the market...
-Weight 2 pound
-14-15 pound of thrust
-Throttlelable
-Very long reed valve life
I'll post a vid soon.

I like the look of the valvelass pulse jet-But i have a question. How small can you make it if all the dimensions are kept relative to each other? Like 1/2 inch tubing for the main section? just wondering cause metal is expensive

There is a patent for a stirling cycle engine which had some valve technology that was highly sought by the nazis because it was critical to the success of their pulse jet engine. The American patent holder was a shoe cobbler from Tennessee and when he realized his family was in jeopardy, he destroyed all his work. It even involved a kidnapping by nazi spies.
It is too bad that alot of amazing technology is shrouded in nastiness.

COOL VIDEO!!!!
Myself and a buddy had one of the old pulse jets in a MIG we built in junior high school on control lines.
Only one slight problem, we borrowed a set of control wires that simply were not strong enough!
About 3 times around the circle, they both broke and our MIG haedaed for the ONLY giant Oak tree aroound.
SMMMMMAAAACCCKKKKK!!!!! bark and balsa went flying everywhere alongside a local neighborhood sidwalk next to the flying filed control line circles. Lucky for us the tree was there, as justt beyond it was a house with a big front picture woindow.
The humorous part to this story is a local police officer pulled up, parked, walked over and almost chuckling said"Well I see you fellas won't be making any more noise this afternoon!"
Turns out he was also a model builder-flyer and circle burner himself, and was really a nice guy.( Someone had called in a noise complaint).
Anyway he bought us a new MIG kit, and brought it over to our junior high school after school model building class, and also a better set of control wires.
However the next MIG had a glow engine, I think a McCoy 40 or slightly bigger
Those were the good old days!
I'm 55 now, been building -flying since about age 6. .
Anything from Comet, Megows, Guillows, and so many more!
Blue skies!

They are nice fuel to noise converters :-)

I take it, that the engine is moving back and forth on a spring scale to measure thrust?
Why the unburned fuel at the end?
ALL NOTE the cherry red combustion chamber is visisble in full sunlight!
cool

It's to measure thrust, yes...
On this test, the motor stopped because the mix was too rich.

I love the pulse jet but the Db 150 plus is just not an option in todays world
until they can make a pulse jet guite like a typical turbine its only a few diehards in the outbacks can do this sport
If the pulse jet could give in excess of 400mph then it would be wrth th grief but they max out around 250 to 300mph and the standard turbines have reached 400 mph
But they are cheap compared to turbines but tricky to maintain the reed fuel system
good luck with your project

It is not a useable jet by any means, but there are plans to make a simple and amusing pulse jet out of a mason jar and some simple parts in a past issue of Make magazine.

I think i have found a suitable place in the sticks in spain where i could do a pulse jet with no noise issues or fire issue terrain
how much would that pulse jet cost
Anyway you could develop a hush kit mayby a electric motor cold air blower to kill the DB a bitfrom 150DB to mayby 100db as the noise from pulses is just toooooo much

wing arera in cm and wing loading in grams per cm2
also what fuel tank size and fuel consumpution flat out
how to launch a bungee
if you do a vidio will you also do a speed doppler from a high speed dive pass and see whatis max is
what dbs roughly
NICE NICE NICE

We made a bungee lauch test and everything went fine, the jet flew 300ft and belly landed successfully. Actual flight with engine running is not made yet, we'll have to wait until spring for that, unfortunately.
