Waited several long days for the wind to subside with no luck. We had an indoor meet scheduled for today, so I said what the heck. Got the PH trimmed and gave it a toss. Flew great first try. Indoors. I must admit that the A.F. Academy Field house is a BIG place, but it is also at ~ 7400ft A.S.L. As luck would have it, it calmed down outside as well. Flew a couple times outside and drove the swallows crazy. I had every one in a couple mile radius come check out this bizarre black bird. The combination of this thing flapping and the cloud of birds chirping gathers quite a crowd. This isn't the flyer to get if you want to fly without being noticed.
I have a couple things to work out, it turns right better than left, and the B.E.C (or R.F. noise?) was causing the motor to cut out at odd times. I had a 50% rate of flat wing glide to "pigeon" glide, but both landed the bird well. I even had a battery eject at altitude (yes folks, this thing vibrates) and it glided almost straight down to a perfect landing.
Next weekend I hope to go to the Team TEKE meet in Silverthorne CO, at 8400ft and see how it does. I am very pleased with the way it flies and its overall ruggedness. Now to design that guano dispenser:cool:
