I just came accross this little gps unit and I'm wondering has anyone had any experience using it on a UAV.

USGlobalSat EM-406 GPS (http://www.robotshop.ca/home/products/robot-parts/sensors/all-robot-sensors/usglobalsat-em-406-gps-module.html)

It seems to be nice and small, and not too expensive.

4800 baud seems painfully slow but then again it dosn't update that quickly anyway.

No experience with that particualt model. I believe Sparkfun.com has them for around $80.00.

4800 baud is the standard rate for NMEA GPS data so that isn't a partucular problem for datalogging or moving map solutions (off the shelf software and hardware). However if you plan a custom telemetry system, 4800 baud could be an issue.

There are others on these forums that do use that particular module though. I'm sure they will provide some real-world feedback soon.

Good luck!

Looks like it's 4800... I've been looking at these

After taking the shrink wrap off of one of my yellow GPS's I believe the second link is the OEM a brand name uses ;)

Those are priced at $51 a sample

Hey - I like that unit. With TTL and RS232 levels, 14 grams and built in antenna, looks to be a good deal at $51.00.

I can't seem to find any more info regarding configuration commands and such though.
