I just got in the ARRL Handbook 2006 edition and the ARRL Antennas Book vol 20. WOW! Very excellent reading. The math is relatively easy and things are explained in plain easily understood english. If you haven't taken a look at these books, I highly recommend you do.

Though not an amateur radio operator, I've bought many ARRL publications beginning in the 1960s. I got the 2004 Handbook, but was disappointed in how few DIY projects were included.

I agree with KI4HVT!
For a concise explanation of radio theory these publications are highly regarded.
I have the 1982 edition of the ARRL Handbook and a later edition on my shelf now.
