View Full Version : Question Wing spacing on tapered-wing bipe?

Hi guys,
I wonder if someone could answer a question I have please?

I believe that the recommendation for bipes is that the wings should be (vertically) separated by a distance of approximately 1 x Chord... but is this the MAC or max. chord? What dimension, or factor, would/should you use with tapered wings?

Cheers,
Steve

P.S. Hmmm, thinking about it, I believe that the minimum spacing is advised to try to minimise tubulance between the wings and hence improve lift. Therefore I should imagine that the bigger the separation the better if you want the 'wider' wing roots to be efficient?

I think you've got it!

Since the consideration is local, the widest chord would set the spacing.

The tapered planform would allow dihedral on the bottom wing without violating your spacing rule.
