hi there,
I have a toy tug too but i think it has one problem with the rudder as i see that direction of rudder to the left or to left is too short.
About you is it possible fix the rudder servo in a better way?
I know my tug is only a toy but is it a crazy idea use a speed control......maybe someone did it.
Thanks a lot for your suggestions
Regards

bluesea,
I think you would have two choices. Replace the existing electronics, or make the rudder large. The first way means an expensive investment, the second, a piece of plastic and some glue. Either are possible, 'which' is up to you.

PS - It may be a 'toy', but it's a nice looking one!

Hi LtDoc,
thanks for your suggestion. Sure, m i' agree with you about the first way (it means empty the wallet :D)....the second one way is interesting too even if less "hitech" but what do you mean whit "make the rudder large".....can you do a disegn over the pic?
thx

bluesea,
Making the rudder large just means more moving area, as in add maybe an inch to the back of the rudder. Depending on how the rudder is mounted, pivot point/bearings/etc, you might be able to change it's shape, add some below the bottom pivot point? A deeper rudder isn't always the best idea, depending on where you sail.
Having said that, and since my wallet isn't the largest in the world, I think I'd probably try the 'add some rudder' thing before swapping electronics. If you are really looking for some 'cheap' way of improving rudder control, you might take a look at a "Becker" rudder set up. It WILL mean more rudder movement, but also isn't exactly the easiest thing to build correctly. It also make steering a bit 'twitchy', sort of. (Changed the turning radius of one of my boats from about 10 feet to almost just the length of the boat. Only a slight exageration there.)
Try the 'add some' thingy first. Then think about the alternatives!

Have a look at Model Boat Mayem's site - go to 'Your Models' -George Harmon's Dickie rebuild. Even if you don't go the whole route, some good ideas there.
I modified the nozzle a bit wirh a Dremel - got a bit more rudder that way. There are a number of rebuilds out there.

Hi Bluesea,
Yes, it is a toy boat. But if you do some modifie on it, it can be a very fun toy. These are some of the picture of my friend's home bulid tug and my toy tug.
