What is the opinion of you guys in regards to motors that are comparable in performance to a Speed 700 series?
Must be a max of 12 cells.
Is a Graupner Ultra 900 about the same? An Astro 25, or 40? How about a GRX 800? Could it perform on 12 cells?
A Johnson Mini-EV on 12 cells?
Thanks! :)

This probly won't be much of a help, as I am not sure of what performance you are really looking for, but... I have a set of 970 size motors made by Johnson. They have a 5mm shaft, and are a seven pole armature, 12 to 18 volts.. internal fan. I got them off ebay from the seller Taterbug39. He also has listed 700 size motors by Johnson motors, fan cooled for 6 to 18 Volts... Max rpm says 22,900. Buy it now at $11.60 for the 700's. not bad. I paid about $38 for two 970's... and have yet to find anything cheaper that performed as well. I used them briefly in a fiberglass hull, 4ft length (PT/Dauntless type hull), on 12V and with 2" props... ran very well. Not sure what you plan on doing with them, but these motors were cheap for me, and worked well. If I build a towboat that I have plans for, I will use 3 of the 970's... but.. till then, they sit. Hope this helps... someone - if not you.

You could look out for the motors used in DeWalt (sp?) handtools. Wing Zeros first choice ounds OK for torque but his second looks a better choice for speed.

Wing Zero: that is the Johnson Mini EV (http://www.enigmaindustries.com/Johnson_Mini-EV.htm). I have a case of them. I have used them in a Wave Shark. 12cells and they are fine. 14 cells and they are getting pushed. 16 cells and they go up in smoke. :p
I think they may be a good choice on 12 cells for this big boat I have in mind. Thanks!

Hi Tom,
On 12 cells there is not a lot of (brushed) choice in terms of "better", what springs to mind are the Plettenberg HP290BM/20/6 or 7, or the HP290BM/30/5 or /6, or the Graupner equivalents (which are made for Graupner by Plettenberg, only difference is the price tag)
I doubt if you'll need the (about 30%) higher efficiency and power in the Venice..., you'll like the sound of the Pletti though.
