I have just bought a 35MHz IPD Frequency Checker but have been too tight fisted to buy the additional aerial. I seem to remember reading somewhere that an external aerial could be made from a 3.5mm stereo jack plug and some wire but I have not found anything using the search facility. Does anybody else have the details or have I just been dreaming?

Richard The "correct" aerial is a very short telescopic about 6 or 7 inches long, due to it's own weight it always tends to droop (old age?) so a 3.5mm jack and a short flex is just as good, or even a piece of thin piano wire will do just as well. (Lighter and considerably cheaper too..£4-95???)
These monitors are a most useful little tool. The aerial length is not hyper critical so do an experiment with a longer length first. The sensitivity of the front end is quite good..so remember it may display more channels than are actually operating with the external aerial plugged in and Tx's close by just as the destructions describe.
Hope this helps, John

John,
Thanks for the info. I have also managed to find this thread http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=426867 which helps as well.
Thanks again

Hi Richard,
I thought they were only available in 72/75 MHz .
Where did you get yours from?
I am after a 36MHz one but I guess if they have a 35MHZ, 36MHz won't be too far away.
Cheers

Zlato,
Unfortunately the place I bought from in the UK (Al's Hobbies) only has 35Mhz versions. Best of luck with your search.
Richard
