Hello,
I am trying to make the RC-USB cable that Malc C and Mark J have put together here (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=508122).
I have all the necessary parts except a PIC Programmer. USB PIC Programmers are expensive (I don't have a serial port on my computer) and I cannot afford to buy one right now.
So, I need help from somebody who has a PIC Programmer and is willing to program one 18F2550 PIC for me.
Thank you.

sameershah, one option you might consider is buying a serial programmer, and then using a USB to serial adapter so it would still work on your computer. You may save yourself a small amount of money that way, compared to buying a USB programmer.
I don't live in California but if you wanted to mail the PIC to me I'd be happy to program it for you and mail it back. But with some luck perhaps you will find someone local.

Luke,
Thanks for chipping in here.. I offered to help out, but being this side of the pond it would be Christmas before he gets his PIC back :) :)

I have a USB pic programmer in Santa Clara. It only cost about $35, but you are welcome to use it.

Thanks David for the generous offer.
Unfortunately the PIC programmer that David has cannot program my PIC (since it is a 28 pin).
Anybody else who has PIC programmer and can program the 18F2550 PIC?

Sameer,
Check out eBay. Just do a search for "pic programmer usb" and many will pop up. You should be able to find one for about 35 bucks or so. Having your own programmer is a good idea for experiments and such.

PS - I tried to build my own JDM Programmer. It didn't work. :censored: THEN I went to eBay and found that I could have a working, tested programmer for LESS than the cost of parts for the homebuilt one. :censored: :censored: :censored:

Dart,
I use the Olimex PG-2C which is in effect the JDM programmer - cost just $12 from Sparkfun... like you said cheaper than building your own..It anly cost me £21 inc a serial lead and shipping to the UK !!
