hi....i'm almost there with the final adjustments to the BD.......last night i read the complete AVA thread....whew!!!!...anyway....the boom that i am using is from kennedy composites....the same one as on the ava.......

there was some concern with routing the antenna inside the boom, radio interference, range issues etc.....so here is what i did......btw i'm using an FMA 8 channel recv on ch 15 -72 mhz....

anyway....i routed the antenna thru the fuse (balsa and ply) and out the rear near the top of the boom and then placed the remaining antenna wire inside a plastic nyrod housing......and taped that to the boom....

will routing the antenna this way cause range problems??.....i haven't range checked the BD yet......but figured i get your opinions on this method, before i go to the field on sunday......

thanks

bob

Since you are flying on 72MHZ your antenna solution will probably work. It would also probably work if you just ran the antenna inside the boom. Antenna installations are finicky though so the only way you might know for sure is if you range test it. Of course range tests are real finicky too so you may or may not get good information there either.

My experience helping others with models with carbon/kevlar weave (my understanding from helping another Ava owner is that is the construction of the boom) is it is bad ju ju (I use that term due to there being no real scientific explination) with it, even on 72 mhz.

If Neon had a regular BD boom (the tailboom.com variety) I would say you are good to go. I just taped the antenna on my Allegro and BD to the outside of the boom (tailboom.com variety).

JoJo posted a great overview of a range test that I would do a search on and try to implement, if I were you. He suggests having another pilot hold the model (or have it on a stand) when you range test. I have been trying to use this method since reading it.

Happy user of JR R770's in all carbon booms including special 12+layer booms that just don't bend (F3B).
