Well, instead of bagging the guy - let's all make our own flying plates and report our success or failures and what we did to get it going in the end? :D

I actually believe it. I cant see how it can fly, but i believe it does. we need a video!
if i see it fly in a video, I will literally be in shock
Do you have any specs on it, Including weight? where is the CG?
UAVPilot
May 21, 2006, 11:39 PM
Theres no reason it shouldn't fly from what I can see. But I would mark were your CG is, remove the clothes hanger then ad an extension too mount your electronics as far forward as they are needed to get the CG in the same spot. You can lose allot of dead weight that way.

May 21, 2006, 11:43 PM
matter fact, I dare say that you could make the entire plate fly without cutting the back off, just cut some slots for the props and shift the CG back some.
A vertical fin might help with stability if there is a problem.

You could replace the clothespin with a plastic spoon and fork, in keeping with the dining theme. Or maybe an oreo and twin tail Dorito fins and vermicelli (sp?) props.

Are you planning to attend any summer school this year? Maybe for spelling and punctuation? Sorry, couldn't resist.. :)

tsk! tsk! cherokee....
If you hit the keyboard too hard you can double type and if you don't hit the key square on you can type the letter/key next to the intended key...
"too" and "onlt" are typo's - what should be encouraged is previewing the post to make sure it reads well before posting ;)
We don't want our future modellers getting a complex via RCG now do we? LOL

Not sure a million previews would solve anything. It just convinces me of the continual decline of US schools. You can generally determine age by grammar, which spell check doesn't handle well. I agree it is a form of mental torture, for those who have done their share of technical writing. While Austrailians have basically maintained the Queen's english, we have numerous forms here in the US. If I were to beat up on somebody, however, it would be their overpaid, incompetent English teachers. Good job guys.

Yes, let's take the most superficial position here, blame it on the teachers. Let's not try to actually determine the root of the problems we have in our educational system, much less a solution...let's just blame the people who spend all day in front of horomone charged adolescents trying to impart a bit of wisdom.
I would type more, but I've been up since 6am, it's past 9pm now and I still have two more handouts to create for my classes. I guess I should take some of that excessive money I get paid and hire someone to do these things for me...you know, since the school can't afford to hire assistants for anyone.

While it seems to be quite common in these forums for younger folk to use incorrect grammar & spelling, I couldn't help but notice that the young man who proudly posted about his airplane hasn't been back after the ad hominim attacks. Tsk! Tsk!

I'm still waiting for him to post the video of his flying plate. Eagerly =]
For the record, I don't believe that age has much at all to do with the mastery of "the Queen's English".
Blaming teachers for (I'm not talking about the original poster here at all) "the decline of US schools".. well it's pretty stupid. I've pretty much learned all that I know about writing on my own. Teachers lead the way, but it's the student's job to do the work and learn. I'd say that it has gotten significantly harder to teach in recent years because of 'cultural' changes. We loves to point us some fingers, though.
This darned intarweb and MTV! By golly, let's blame the parents now.
I've been thinking of taking a foam meat tray and trying this with it *inspired* from this post. I'm dying to make an airplane that I can call "The Meat Machine" and have justification for the name =]
BTW: I can't wait for the flying plate video. Let's see it man =]

I am sorry, but after reading this, I had to reply. I agree that MTV is a horrible influence on young people—their emphasis on personal image and material wealth is truly appalling. But I am also disheartened that so many people believe what is shown on TV is actually Hip Hop. What most believe to be Hip Hop is actually pop music.
Hip Hop is a culture full of wonderful things: breaking dancing crews, graffiti artist, emcees, turntablist, etc. Lil' Jon, 50 Cent, and the like are not Hip Hop in any sense. Please message me if you’d like to know more. I apologize for getting off topic, but this is the culture I identify with, and I just want to help break the negative connotations associated with Hip Hop.

Just tried the plate, and it did not work. I tried all types of variations: full plate, 3/4 plate, plate with vertical stab, and so on.

Hey S&B:
Lighten up! I'm a fan of spell-check; are you? (BTW, it's "Australians"). Those of us over 30 are dinosaurs; communication has changed, e-mail and IM are fast and loose - grammar and spelling fall by the wayside in the interest of speed and multi-tasking.
As to blame, I find myself screaming at the overpaid TV anchor-droids every time they say "How can Americans like you and I believe......". Don't get me started on the real meaning of "The Lion's Share" versus the way it's used. (For the record, the lion's share is ALL of it.) And need I say more than GWB???
Teachers reflect the times, they don't create them.
The rise of "non standard" English is due to the decline of reading. The printed word preserves standards, at least when there were editors and proofreaders. Now even the NY Times screws up on nearly every page. E-communication is closer to the spoken word; most people cringe when they hear themselves on tape.
Whew! Now this thread is getting bumped fer sure!

Is this RCG or the View? I can't believe the amount of effort put into posts that put down the authors for typos as if thery were grammatically challenged. I can't type worth a dang and even with a spell check I still can miss errors. Last time I checked, "too" was a word. The spell checker won't find a synonym unless that was spelled wrong also. But instead of just seeing the post as just a post some people go the extra distance to accuse and insult. If as much effort went into getting a plane to fly as it does with the insults being posted there would be more planes in the air instead of tempers. This thread is about a plane not an academic standardization survey. Now I am posting out of subject. Go fly a plane!
