Of course it's $29 buckaroos from TRU, wallyworld might be $10
more. Heck just go to Target or TRU and grab one for $29 bucks.

I'm about to toss this one into the air!!!

Well besides doing a three point landing on my neighbors roof because
a nice gust of wind turned it 90 degrees it was fairly relaxed.

I'm definately glad I did the throttle mod before I went out because once
I launched it and trimmed it out she would climb pretty fast. I'm surprised it will fly slow fairly well but upon full throttle it seems the plane wants to
almost stall with the nose in the air. This might be do to winds today... :(

If you look at the pics I posted before it has alot of dyhedral in the wing and the elevators in the rear. I'm thinking of straightening them with clear tape and see how fast she can go. I can definetly say she flies better in the wind then prior AA, even with the wing mod on the old AA.

This one would be alot of fun to fly inside a gymnasium for sure!!!

Over and out,
B

p.s. Video next time, I just retrieved the AA jet off the roof when it started pouring rain. Lucky me.

I have had mine quite awhile and with many flights on it.

They do climb really well, But if you find that it climbs way to much at full power, what I have found to work well was just to flex the entire mid section of the body, to in effect, trim the horizontal down. Were as just flexing the horizontals them selves, don't seem to do much As they flex back right away, since they are made of EPP.

It does have allot of dihedral, but I know that indoors, under constant turning, it can get into a downward turning spiral that is hard to get out of. Taking out some of the dihedral might make that worse. Don't know, give it a try.

They don't fly like the bi plane, not near as maneuverable, But once you get use to the difference , Many may find that they like it much more, or at least just as much as the biplane, and enjoy it for it's different flight quality's.

They also glide very well. I like to take mine real high, then stop the motors, and let it glide back close to the ground, then hit full throttle and turn to make a low, high speed banking pass. Great fun :D

About the climbing issue why not just put a bit of weight in the front?

About the climbing issue why not just put a bit of weight in the front?Proper trim is always better than adding weight if the CG is correct already.

Survey says!!!

17600rpm

Just like the other AA motors. Not to say you couldn't use some
nice orange SS motors but I don't think the ESC would survive.

BThats interesting  The Jets I have, the motors are obviously 1mm longer and produce more thrust. But the props are the same.

I assumed you measured the RPM with the motor on the plane. Maybe the props RPM is lower because they are mounted in a slot on the wing.

When I tested my motors they were mounted on a different Airframe.

I never took a RPM reading , but I know for a fact, running the two different AA sets Back to back, the motors out of the jet sounded like they had a higher RPM and gave quite A bit more thrust.

Hey all, I swung by TRU tonight and they had the new jets! Best of all, it didn't ring up right, so the checker put in the wrong SKU and it came to $24.95. BUT that's not all, there was a 30% off sale of all air hogs planes, so the final total was $16 bucks and some change!!!!! Only had time for a quick test flight in the dark and I LIKE IT! Faster with wider turns. Flies a lot different than the regular AA.

Hauntme13
May 23, 2006, 01:13 AM

This jet is freakin awesome.... no way could you even begin to seriously compare it in performance to the original.

It's smooth... like butter... literally. Wider turns, but never drops a wing... and this thing doesn't know HOW to stall and porpoise. Just smooth movements up, down, left, right... all the way across the board.

It's much faster, like a jet should be compared to the older Biplane type. I flew it while walking from the parking lot into work just a few min ago... simply amazing performance. I was a little hesitant looking at it's design... but the first 2 seconds I flew it, my first thought was "*In Awe*...Spinmaster has outdone themselves on this AA Jet."

I got mine from the Southcenter TRU....... but I got the very last one after calling yesterday and reserving it.

The girl said they'll get more, in about a week or two. Their shipments arrive on Thursdays... but no guarantees. All TRU's are having 33% off of all Aero Ace products right now... but the Southcenter TRU is completely out of ALL Aero Ace planes, old bipe and new jet.

Try Target... a friend just picked up some older Bipe type AA's from the Target at Southcenter. So they may offer some hope in the way of the new jet style.

If not there... try Wal-Mart... they have AA's for $10 more if your desperate.

For us waiting for Video of the AAjet Click this Link for a small one http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=518450

For those overseas this is a USA "Airhogs" only plane. If you really want one I suggest you wait until end of July. Then you could import an AA jet and a AA Trifusion / Storm launcher hydroplane.

For those in the USA looking for one call up your local Toys R Us and give them this SKU# 103680 if you want to save gas. Looks like the offical name is AA R/C Rush ..¿? I'll pick one up for sure.

The one shown in post #1 is a Channel C plane. I already had A and B
and so I got this one. It is listed on the back of the box which channel
they have.

As far as colors I saw:

black/red
purple/red
gold/black

p.s. The RPM measurement was taken on the plane of course. I really doubt
removing the motor from the slot will increase it's RPM by 4k rpm!

Also one Wall-Mart had the AA bipe for 40$, while the other Wall-Mart only 20 miles away had them priced for less then 30$. Both Wall-Marts had more Airhogs stuff then the Target store. The AA bipe and AA Jet have Different Sku's too.

Hauntme13

Well, after putting the etech 250 in the jet, it didn't climb as well. Must be noseheavy. It was very flyable, just didn't get to altitude very easily, even on full throttle. Turns were wider too. I'll se if I can move it back some and report back, hopefully tomorrow.

Hauntme13
May 31, 2006, 01:54 AM
OK, I moved the batt right under the RX. Test glide is MUCH better. We'll see.

Oh yeah, before I forget: side by side with the regular bipe AA, the jet's motors get way more RPM. Definately more powerful. I don't have an RPM meter, just my ear.. :D

relaxr
May 31, 2006, 02:01 AM
Does the jet have other pagers? Definitely or suspected ? Maybe you could measure their resistance. Standard pagers in AA/Xts have around 5,3 ohms. If stronger they should have less ohms - or?

Bya

Hauntme13
May 31, 2006, 02:11 AM
Hey relaxr,

The motors are definately different. They are longer. I haven't measured the resistance, and I don't want to hack up the wires yet. Definately size and RPM difference though. Here's a pic of the two motors side by side.

Corbin_Dallas
May 31, 2006, 03:49 AM
I keep hearing that the new JETS have longer motors, however, if this is just said by people who have just glanced at the motors as indicated in the above picture. Now I have NO objection to the fact that they are indeed longer/better,
BUT, could it be that they are just better?? Cause if u think about it, wires come straight out the back of most pager motors, therefor, there would NEED to be a little sapacing between what appears to be the longer end of a motor, and seeing no venting holes in the black mount, perhaps some more spacing for ventilating the heat instead of the black rubber-lookin mount hugging the motor tight.
You guys see what I'm thinkin', could yet be the same pager size motors, also, if it is (or even isn't) the same size motor, not seeing any wenting and stronger thrust from roughly the same motor makes me also think 'Perhaps these JETS (their motors anyway) aren't suppose to last us that long'. EVIL MARKETING??? ;)

-(v)att-

Hauntme13
May 31, 2006, 04:45 AM
I see your point Corbin. My intent was just to illustrate that the motors are DIFFERENT from the regular AA motors. Definately a hotter wind. But I don't want to risk breaking my jet to pull one out just to illustrate this. I'm sure someone here will pull the motors out and mount them directly to the wing for better cooling/lower weight, and we can see then. I just don't want to do it yet. I'm still playing with the CG after installing a bigger batt.

relaxr
May 31, 2006, 05:23 AM
This black motor looks like the motors of the new xtwins in europe. For this planes just the housing (black) has changed - not the pager inside! I have planes with this type and older xtwins. Thrust readings showed no advantages for the new ones - the pager inside was identical, just the housing changed.

But maybe the jet pagers are stronger (?).

An easy setup for measuring approx(!) thrust is ->

1.) put the planes with nose down (fixed in a paper roll or so) on a scale and read the difference between no thrust and full thrust in gr.

Standard xtwin motors (old and new) range between 11-13 gr for both motors. If the jet is significant stronger I would expect about > 14 gr or so.

HauntME,
Oh, I wasn't suggest YOU do it, that's fine man, until these are more readily available like the bipes, I wouldn't do it if I were u either.......(okay, okay.....I would TRY not do do anything to it ;) )

PLUS THIS WAY...... THE MYSTERY LIVES ON!! :p

OK, I put the jet on the scale and throttled up. Got 13g of thrust or so. Hmmmmm.... could be same motors. OK, the jet is LOUDER hehe.... sure sounds different, but I can't argue with the numbers.

Be happy about 13 gr! Thats a top value, I'd say 80% of gears are around 11-12gr. 13 gr is on top. I had just one gear with 13 gr (from all in all about 8).

Oh, forgot to post that the motors are 2mm longer than the old ones, they definatly have more thrust too. So thats a 6x14 rather than 6x12. I can measure them too, since I always break the leads when i take the motors out..

Alright, my multimeter is saying that the motors are 3.5 ohms.. hmm, I cant really believe that without someone else verifying it.. seems too hot.

They better have better output ESC's than the latest AA Bipes or the Rx isn't going to last long.
Maybe they went to MOSFETS to handle the added load!.
Be a better buy than than the stock AA Bipe if they did.
Love to see a Rx pic close enough to read the part code. Or maybe someone can just read it and post it.
If I can find one....I guarentee after a couple of flights it's coming apart so I can see the Rx!
Making a phone no. list now for 50mi from my house. I'm in Ohio, USA

Edit; Nice 2nd vid. Thanks

The electrionics look the same.
My readings show that the motors draw about .5 amps each.

I know you can run 4 of the original AA motors on the system with out it burning out.
I have run a pager motor on the system that pulls .7 amps each and it seemed OK, but I think the battery is only rated for 1 amp draw.

Best pic I could get from my camera.

I'll take it apart and get a pic of the other side.

Hi Tony...

I can't believe that you have questioned the Rx's ability to handle a little more current, as several of us have doubled up, or exchanged our motors, and have NOT posted a faliure based on that...

And you have been here all the time... Big SMILE !!!

Looks like nothing fundamentally has changed on the breadboard.

I think Martin McKinney stated that these babies can handle about
1 amp to 1.5 draw but hey maybe more?

Will it handle a couple of speed 400's on a 10 cell NiMh??? :D

Thanks for the video!

Great job flying and filming! Got to get one when they come out in my area!

Are the jet motors 6mm or 7mm? I only can find one 6mmx15mm (versus the AA bip[lane has 6mmx12mm). And the 6x15 is 10ohm.

7x15 motors come in various windings (different ohms).

From slowfly.com:

Didel 6 mm Motors
DIDMK06-6.0 - 6mm*12mm brown 6 ohm 0.8mm shaft: +2.90
DIDMK06-10 - 6mm*12mm Pager 10ohm 0.8mm shaft 1.3grams: +2.90
DIDMK06-3 - 6mm*12mm pink 3 ohm 0.8mm shaft 1.31grams: +2.90
DIDMK06-30 - 6mm*12mm blue mark 30ohm 0.8mm shaft 1.21grams: +2.90
DIDMK06-4.5 - 6mm*12mm green 4.5ohm 0.8mm shaft 1.31grams: +2.90
DIDMK06L-10 - 6mm*15mm Pager 10ohm 0.8mm shaft 1.62grams: +2.90

7mm:
DIDMK07-10 - 7mm*15mm Pager 10ohm 1.0mm shaft 2.76grams: +3.40
DIDMK7-3.3 Super Slicks Orange 3.3 ohm motor 2.8g: +4.50
DIDMK7-2.3 Super Slicks Red Motor 2.3 Ohms 2.8g: +5.25
DIDMK7-1.7 Super Slicks Blue 1.7 Ohm Motor: +5.25

I ordered 4.5ohm and 6ohm 6x12mm as replacements (have not received them yet).

hey,

just wanted to mention the jet is in here in a dallas TX suburb, flies like a champ. This is alot better for me because its usually windy and I fly only outdoors.

but the bip still is king of my backyard, which is too small for the jet

Hi Folks...

They have landed in "L.A."....!!!!!!! Los Angelas California, that is...

I just, in the last hour, bought a "B" and a "C", at the TRU in the Cerritos Shopping mall.

$29.95 each. So it is worth the calling around to the various stores in your area..

I've skimmed over this thread. Has anybody opened the transmitter to see if the "lazy turn" diodes are in place like the early AeroAces?
