Yeah, it's a really silly idea, and I have a plane just small enough for it. What do you think? After you've eaten your steak, you throw the plane out and fly off the boiling heat from the BBQ...:D I think I'd make a nice fly-in for a club meeting, don't you think?

I would think you're average Texas BBQ could produce a nice thermal, no need to build you plane smaller:)

Has anyone used the exit vents at air conditioning support buildings for lift? I was at the local college campus yesterday and almost flew over the air conditioning vents at the campus stand alone air handler building. I wasn’t sure of the down drafts so I didn’t. :D

I saw a pilot pick up a thermal off of 4 cars parked together on a grassy field that gave him just enough lift to win the handtoss contest that was taking place at the slope as we waited for wind. (It never came that day.) The area of the handtoss event was slightly uneven and he finally won by flying to the lowest spot while the guy who was dead even with him in the air landed on a high spot.:)

Tim Harris (of handlaunchaerobatics.com fame) has thermalled a bonfire.
