View Full Version : Discussion x-30 speed cont too small?

Is a x-30 speed control too small to power a a30-16m in a 30 oz plane with a 11 x 7 prop & a 2100 mha 3s lipo. After flying at full throt for a couple minets the motor looses power. When throtled back and allowed to cool it will go to full power again for 15 sec+- then loose power again. I bought this motor speed control from esprit as a package deal.

I am using the same setup in virtually the same weight plane with very much different results. By coincidence, I bought the same setup. My ESC does not get hot or "shutdown" as yours does. Could Hacker be having quality problems??

Bob is your motor, esc & battery enclosed or out in the breeze? Are any components hot to touch on landing? How many amps are you drawing and what "C" is the battery rated for? How old is your battery? If it slows but doesn't stop my first thought is the battery.

They are all inside but I cut the front hatch away to allow more airflow and the prob still exists. The speed cont is def pretty warm, the motor slightly warm. I have been using a tp prolite ( new 2-06) I use the same batteries in my mini ultra with no prob. On the pkg of the x-30 it says specifically designed for the a-20 series but since it was a package I figured they new what they were doing. I dont have a watt meter so im not sure of the specifics on watts. The c rating on the batt is 15c cont, 24c burst I think.
Any input from Hacker on this?

ecalc estimates 19.5 amps. Sounds OK suggest contact Hacker direct.

Thanks David.
I thought Hacker checks & responds to Items in their area.

Bob,
I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. I have been out of the office for a few days.
Everything about your motor system in relation to your plane sounds to be correct. It sounds to me as though you may have an internal short in the motor. Please send both the motor and ESC in to us to be checked out. Please print out a copy of our repair form from our website www.hackerbrushless.com.

Thanks Kyna,
This motor & speed cont was just replaced. The other motor did have a broken winding which caused it to fry the speed control. I figured that was the reason it was'nt running right.
After installing the new motor & speed control the prob still exists. Do you think this motor would have the same prob? Seems very unlikly but?

Dear Bob,
Is there any way you could post some pictures of your installation? Please include motor view, esc view and, air exit hole.

I've not done that before. I'll see what I can do.

I am thinking of buying the same motor/esc combo, however, I also think the esc might not be big enough to handle the amps. Drive calculator estimates a current of about 32 amps when spinning a 11x7 E.

Bob,
I'm not really sure why I didn't think of this before, but the problem is that you're battery capacity is too low for your system. You are hitting the low voltage cut-off, this system will require at least 4000mah for 8-10 min flight times.

Kyna,
I was always thinking that heat was the prob but I see your point about the battery. When the battery's fresh it takes longer for the power to drop than
when the battery's used some. Thanks for the input I'll buy a big battery and see how that does.
Thks Bob
