Hey,
I've always wanted to get into this hobby, and am considering making my wish actually come true.
I'm in the research stage.

I've never flown a heli.
So my main question is,
What's the cheapest and easiest to fly/learn heli?

I figure I can spend money on a good heli once I've learned to fly.

I've been reading forums and looking thru the web and I've seen comments like "the "XXXX" heli is great I wish I had started with it. Do you think that's a wise comment or colored by preference/skill? (Should I pay any attention?)

Do heli sims actually simulate flying the way I would fly outside in a field or are they easier or ingorant of things like wind/environment?

I am no expert in helicopters but I have flown and crashed for two years now. The best thing to do is find a club or peson in your area to fly with.

There is NO best helicopter. If you start witth a heli that is being flown in your area, it will be easyer for the other pilots to help you get it setup.

Ther are other forums that deal with just helicopters, so if you go there you can get lots more information.

I started with a Kyosho Nexus. I was the only one flying this heli. I was told lots of things were wrong with this heli. It is still flying and I still like to fly it. Then got a Thunder Tiger Raptor. It does the aerobatic stuff better but it is not as stable as the Nexus. I have tried to get the Nexus to move like the Raptor but it won't. I have also tried to get the Raptor to be as soft and have the slow resonce as the Nexus but it won't do it. They are different designs so they both have there place.

I was told the the Raptor was cheaper to repair then the Nexus. I had the Nexus fall from about 300 feet to the ground. It cost me $115.00 to get it back in the air. I had a mid air boom strike with the Raptor and it fell around 100 to 150 feet. It cost me $100.00 to get it back in the air. They are close so for me it is a toss up.

There are other brands that I can not coment on because I do not know anything about them. They are the new one's from Hirobo, Jr, Century. I have heard that they are good so look at them as well.

Take what you read with a grain of salt. It has a way of turning into the old ford versus chevy thing. Some people just like to say that what they think is the only way to think.

Hey all i have to say is stick with what people in your area know. I,ve been flying for about 2 months now and the fact that the guy teaching me has the same chopper helps alot. Hes was familer with its set up and had it dialed in in no time. from what he says simulators help alot. Thats how he learned i have no sim. experiance. I'm now on my second gallon of fuel and can already hover pretty stable for about 2 minutes. So i guess it really depends on the person weather sims help or not. And buy the way we fly NEXUS 30's.
