Advice on rc setup

I'm currently building a new boat kit and it's twin motored. It's been
suggested that for best effect, I'm better off with one channel for
each
of the motors and one for the rudder. All my other RC stuff is two
channel - in fact, I've got three transmitters for three different
models, and this would now seem to be the chance to rationalise.

What I think would be best longer term (but I'm open to suggestions) is
to go for a four channel setup. I'm unlikely to do any flying - I'm
mainly interested in boats and cars. I've got a kit built car with an
Acoms 27MHz AM system, a RTR boat with a Futaba 27MHz AM system and a
kit-built boat with a 27MHz FM Futaba system, all two channel.

Can anyone recommend a four channel system that will see me through my
current build and next few models and one that will ultimately replace
my existing collection of transmitter kit?

Looking at it, it would appeara my best best is a 40MHz 4 channel
Futaba which I've found for around 50UKP... I think it's a 4EXA

the easy way is to use a v tailed (or elevon) mixer meant for aircraft this
will give you the type of control you need
on 2 channels

I'll give that a try - I bit the bullet and bought the 4EXA anyway and
it supports mixing.

Now I've finished drilling holes in the hull and fixing the propshafts
and rudders, the next job is to wire out the radio tray, so good timing!

Futaba skysport 4. Can be modified to 5 channel, the modified channel
likely a switched channel. I made the 5th channel a switched channel.
I saw 35MHz, 40MHz and 72MHz.
