Hi,

I started a new project , a canadair CL215 but im puzzled on what airfoil i'd use. Can anyone give me some hints ?

Franck,
The Canadair CL 215 uses a modified NACA 4417 airfoil.

Something like an NACA 4417 should be fine. Although, it's pretty hard to go wrong on a plane like that with a good-old Clark Y. I'd probably use an Eppler E205 or E207, myself.

You're never going to fly it inverted, right?? ;) So all you need to think about is a high maximum lift coefficient (so you can land slowly) and reasonably low drag.

Good luck, and have FUN!!! :D

nah, inverted is not wat I had in mind. I want to focus more on scale flying and duration. (and dropping water..(or whatever;))

Eppler 205 is something I havent tried yet, maby i should.

Thanks,

12% Clark Y.

For what it's worth:
The Clark Y = NACA 4412 both are 12% max thickness at 30% chord. The NACA 4417 is 17% max thickness with 4% max camber at 40% chord and was(is?) the airfoil used on the 100% scale CL 215!

I just finished an own design twin engined aircraft with the Selig S8037 airfoil and am very happy with it. I used it simply because it was designed especially by the good Dr. for models at low Rn's and is the tip airfoil on the Top Flight P-47 which has been touted as a very good flyer by those supposedly in the know. It is 16% thick, 2.62% camber, high point is at 33.96%

The plane is very forgiving, seems to stay "up on the wing" even at slow speeds, has predictable stall characteristics and the drag seems to be low (to me anyway) for a 16% thick 'foil. Would the plane fly better/worse with a Clark Y, NACA2416, or an Eppler 205? I dunno! Those are good 'uns as well.:)
