Are there better pull-start assemblies avaialble for the big-block motors rather than the all plastic factory units? Or maybe a replacement aluminum spool?
I have broken the 2nd pull-start spool. The spool seems to be the weak link. The compression of the newer 4.4 motor is high and I'm really careful about pulling too far and also flooding. As a habit I release the glow plug about 1 turn before starting which seems to reduce flooding. Put on a new pull-start unit and after about 10 starts the hub has sheared off the spool again.
The answer might be a starter box but that's more acc's to get and batteries to maintain.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
