I bought an unfinished hull off ebay some time ago and have just got
round to working o it. It is a 50" long wooden ring end trawler which
I intend to put a steam unit into.

The hull is part planked using double diagonal planking, only about
half the first layer is done. The builder used thin planking about 1 x
1/8 (or less) inch hordwood and was obviously having great trouble
when he packed up. I have stripped some of the worst planking off and
done about half of one side using 1/2 x 1/8 approvx which follows the
compound contours better than the wider stock. I am having trouble
with the planks twisting but on this bottom layer I'm not too worried.
the top layer will be another matter.

I can't find much about double diagonal planking in the modelling
literature. I know it is authentic for trawlers, lifeboats and similar
vessels. On original craft the two layers would have a canvas bed
soaked in red lead between them.

Any hints of finishing this hull would be gratefull received.
