We are going to build the new Eliminator 90 with a turbine.
I think the Wren 44 Gold will be a good choice.
See the movie of the first flight at:
www.speedmodels.nl
Who can tell if the Wren 54 is too much power.
The model is 118cm wingspan and 118cm fuselength.
Weight complete with equipment 1600 grams
without fan and lipo.
At the moment I am building the wing with thin plywood and carbon.

I think the MW-44 Gold will be a good match for your airframe... AUW with fuel onboard would be deciding factor to me for sure... the 54 would be just too much engine for this airframe IMHO and too much AUW with the 54's full load of fuel....
Personally I have been flying a variety of models from sealed strips using 54's and the SS ranging from 14.5 lb to 27.5 lb AUW. :)

Thank you very much.
I just wanted to open the discussion
and the be sure about the decision.
We want to build all the other parts in the nose
and put the turbine round the CG.
The two kevlar tanks 500cc wil be on the sides of the turbine.
The model will get special intakes with cooling for the turbine
and we want to use a double sided thrusttube.
I only have to find an address for buying the thrusttube.
Did we forgot anything ?
Thanks.

Marty,
What means AUW, SS and IMHO ??
Thanks.
Regards,
Look.
AUW is All Up Weight.
SS is the Wren MW-54 Super sport ( Way too big an engine)
IMHO is In My Honest Opinion.
The simjet 700 or mw-44 would be an exelent choice for this plane.
calvo
Apr 24, 2006, 12:39 PM
maybe the FS 70 Typhoon would be possible. Weight is less than a MW54, but a little more than the MW44. But I think with 7 Kg os thrust this thing will be mor ea rocket than a plane. So 44 seems to be ok.
look
Apr 24, 2006, 01:16 PM
I like rockets !!
Thanks all !
I have ordered a Wren 44 Gold.
The Eli 90 is fast on 27 Cells so a turbine
will be faster because of the exhaust velocity.
Now I have to search for a thrusttube.

There you go :D
Re- pipes I would suggest if you go with the Wren MW44 asking Wren as they can supply customer pipes.....Also you might consider Tamjets, Tam builds the best pipes I have seen to date ;)

Apr 25, 2006, 02:29 AM
Wren only makes the single sided pipe, I think double sided is better.
I will take a look at Tamjets !!
Thank you.
I can't wait flying with the new Eliminator with a fast turbine !!

Re- Wren pipe, hmmm I here you that is a worry! as excessive pipe heat could be real issue? that said we know the Wren pipe design for the MW44 can actually increase thrust, so maybe worth considering making up the outer wall yourself????
Re- Tam, all my jets have Tam pipes installed, all Tams pipes are duel walled and lighter than all other pipes that I have seen... Tam will make to your models specs also, never had any problems with Tams pipes, and run cool.
Hes doing a big hiflow custom bifurcated pipe right now for my big Yellow (twin) bug.... :)

Hi to all,
I'm working with Look together and had also a question:
How far away must be the pipe from the turbine?
Do we absolute need a hopper tank (think it's better)
And what material can we use as a rudder-horn nearby the trust-pipe for the elevator? (see picture like we install it on our Eliminator)
Because of the heat!
Thanks a lot,
Nickos

Sarah from Wren can answer the pipe/motor distance.
Sullivan makes a metal horn that would work.

glue some composite horns into the elevator.
You can make them yourself out of some cirkitboard.

Do you fly for now a turbine?
What do you think of the wren mw44gold?
Do you have any tips for us what we should know.
Thanks,

I lost my hotspot last year, and im building a new Mirage III for my simjet 3000
http://www.rc-unionen.dk/nytforum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=12505&whichpage=1
Look in this L-39 thread for lots of info on the simjet 700, and MW-44 engine instalations and setups
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_1396336/tm.htm
You wont go wrong by buying either of the two engines. They are both great.
I think you will like turbines....they just run without problems :-)
Just make sure the RPM wire is far away from the glowplug wires...otherwise you will get eratic readouts....and away from other wires too.
I would love to have one of your jets, and a simjet 700, because of the small size. It is a pain to transport these huge jets to the field :-)
Im also building a slightly larger "Eliminator" for the simjet 3000 13,5kg thrust turbine. :)

Hi,
Looks nice !!
Which model is that ?
Regards,
Look.
Hi Look.
I bought it on ebay from someone in germany.
The fuselage is molded from a Super Balsa Bandit, but the wings are custom, and are larger than a bandit. It is one of a kind as far as i know.
it is 185cm long and 194cm wingspan
The dark grey fuselages in the pictures are BVM Balsa Bandits

Hi SJ,
Do you use a hopper tank?
And is it a must to use it? for the bubbles in the lines...
Thanks,
Nickos
:)
No, i do not use a hopper tank, and have never had any problems. But, I always put my tanks in series...
But.....on the smaller engines, alot of poeple seem to use them.
I think it depends on how good your fuel tank setup is.
When you draw fuel from parallel tank setups, i think hopper tanks are a must.
How is the tank setup in your plane ? Im guessing saddle tanks over CG ?
Here are some pictures of my friends Bandit....you can see the hopper, and main tanks in the picture.
nickos
May 09, 2006, 10:20 AM
Hi Sj,
We want to use 2 main tanks over de CG.
The main tank will 450/500 ml each
We will make them with kevlar.
Also we will choose for an hopper-tank.
So total will be a little more than 1 litre.
Consumption full trottle will be 140 ml/min at 195.000 rpm
I guess what you already said it's the best for the MW44 gold (small engine)
Look has an BVM hopper tank at his place and that realy looks COOL.
your friend has a very COOL plane
Do you also make your bandit ready for flying?
Saw them on the pictures at your place (mirage)

No, the bandit is still like the pictures you see of it.
Ill finish the mirage first. It needs all the detail work on it.

Hi guy's,
We did some work on the wings.
Triplex with carbon .
The wings are very nice and super strong.
We also have a new intake for the turbine version.
Now we are doing heavy work on the tanks... not much room...
But we wanna have 1 litre of fuel.
2 side tanks and a hopper.
Here some pictures from the wing.

How does the MW 44 Gold go? Very well! It does seem to work a lot harder in the Savex F-16 than a standard 44 in the Savex L-39, perhaps the F-16 has a lot more drag. We fly from a grass strip with no problems at all.
It's owned by a friend. He used the tank that came supplied with the engine (1 litre Dubro) with a felt clunk & no header tank. The engine will keep running right down to the very last drops of fuel (don't ask us how we know!)
With the Gold being a full auto start the small ECU battery works very hard & should be recharged between flights or the engine will not start properly. - John.

We will make after this story a midtank in one piece instatt
the two saddle tanks. The wings are from thin 0,4mm plywood.
We are looking forward to fly with these planes.
The inlets will be short and straight.
The tank will be on the CG.

John,
Thank you for sharing the pics with us.
As Look said we gonna have 1 tank now.
Will be a home-made tank.
Pics will follow.
And YES... we wanna see the power too!
How long is the flight time with the 1 litre tank?
Thanks

Hi,
If we wanna build one tank we cannot make him lie on the CG of the plane.
Is this a problem for the Jet.
I can see at the picture of the F16 he is also not positioned at the CG.
Do we have to weight the plane with half a tank (filled)
Do we have other options to have the best weight balance for installing one tank?
Are there pictures?
Thanks alot
Nickos
Thanks Nickos.
It is far from finished..... :-)
I need to make panel lines and put on some decals.
I just wanted to attend the jet meeting, and see how it flew....and find any potential faults.
I found one!
The nose gear is too short.
It used about 130meters to get in the air :-)
The 13kg thrust turbine pressed the nose so hard down, that the wing had negative angle of attack when running on the ground. It had 45mm up elevator :-)
Once it got up to speed and at 130 meters down the strip, it rotated 90 degrees and went strait up for a second until i got it leveled out :-)
Very scary hehe :-)
I am making the strut and wheel well longer, and it should lift off at 60-80 meters.
Ill have to go test it again soon.

Hi,
We though it was great to have one tank but we have a big problem with the CG.
So we did make our 2 side tanks ready and looked how much feul could be in.
Those 2 side tanks are a little bit over the 1 litre and total right at CG.
So we gonna choose for the 2 tanks and no hopper or a very small hopper.
Grtz
Nickos
:)
hehe...yes, it can be difficult to find space for a single tank in such a plane.
Maybe you could modify the ducting for the tank.
Turbines are not quite like EDF when you look at ducting.
When using a full duct like in the sniper/Bandit/Eliminator, you loose some static thrust, but the top speed will be highest. If you remove the ducting completly, you will have the largest static thrust, but wind resistance inside the fuselage will make the plane a little slower at full speed.
look
May 24, 2006, 05:44 PM
I have made a new inlet in one piece, shorter than EDF.
I do not like the removed inlets so I have made these new inlets.
The inlet ends before the turbine.
The tanks fits perfectly with the inlet and the turbine.
The whole nose is empty for the equipment and if necessary a small hopper tank. We have ordered some small equipment for the tank but did not receive that.
Now we are looking for a place for the elevator servo's.
Can we put them beside the turbine or is before the turbine better ?? Thanks !!
We will use the Wren thrusttube.

Look.

What should be better the retracts going forward in ?
Or going backwards in ?
And on 90 degrees or different ?
well, if you install the turbine in the duct, then you can install the servos beside the turbine.. Also, I would put the nosewheel in the front end og the wheel well, and have it retract backwards. This works well on the bandit.

Is the wingspan scale ?
Thanks.
Look.
Hi Look
How about using 2,5mm threads ?
Worked great on my hotspot.
Stay with the metric system :-)
The mirage is very stable.......its a nice flying triangle :-)
The wingspan is 134cm Scale would be about 130cm.....2 cm each side extra is hardly noticable. This is not a super scale model, but you are not in doubt that it is a mirage when you see it :-)

Geez that CAD designed seat is very impressive, thats one area that I have often wondered about learning more about myself..... just curious as to how difficult this is to manufacture and whats involved time wise, could you for instance make seat from other materials (plastics) if weight is not a factor??? Plastic will melt with CNC cutting.
But plywood is a good solution.

I did not think of the plastic (melting). Hey thanks Look for the offer re- bug seat! I may just take you up on that offer...
The seat would be for my 1/7 scale F-18 (Yellow twin) project, What I will do is put together some seat documentation along with the scale seat specs and see if you think its doable. The F-18s seat is one item I have had difficulty sourcing in the correct 1/7 scale, Iam seriously prepared to scratch build the whole cockpit as this project Iam going all out on with full cockpit and functional canopy, not to mention the super scale (Paul Reese) bug gear legs and Glennis wheels.....
