The Golden Touch!
"Once upon a time" and way back when, there were two kinds of models at the flying field. There were, of course, the kit or scratch-built planes, who's owners put their "blood, sweat and tears" into building, covering and detailing so they would have a quality model in the end. It's a traditional way of modeling that takes lots of time, talent and skill, and it's still popular and appreciated today. These were what most flyers would have called the "real R/C models"
We starts this way with the ,my bosom friend Guga sent me Walth Mooney DART Plans.
A wing taper ratio close to that of the full-sized plane and the landing gear design improve the scale appearance without reducing flight performance. This is one plane that is recommended not only to ez-fans but to all scale fans as well.
We bring years of building and flying experience to each project to assure there are no compromises in aerodynamic design, structural engineering and, of course, the look and feel of the aircraft. The result is a strong, light, good looking and excellent flying model. The fiberglass cowl and wheel pants — painted to match the surrounding Top Flite MonoKoteŽ trim scheme — add to the DART H1S4 scale-like looks.
To power the DART H1S4 , I used an Thunder Tiger 46 Pro 2-stroke engine with its stock muffler swinging a Master Airscrew Design 11 x 6 fiberglass propeller. I was pleased to find that the engine compartment was totally fuelproofed. It looked as if a thinned coat of epoxy was applied to all exposed bare wood.
We knew that a scale model , needed to be adjusted... stretched a bit here and slimmed down there, yet still remain faithful to the original. An airfoil needed to be designed to hold up in the specific flight parameters where we wanted our Dart to excel. Every minute detail was considered to optimize its aerodynamics, and looks. Our DART H1S4 gives one of aviation's most exciting aircraft the absolute top-of-the-line treatment and exemplified the risk, innovation, and excitement of the Golden Era of aviation.
This is a very handsome model and aptly captures the art deco streamlined designs endemic to the Golden Era. A number of unsolicited comments were received by fellow modelers, complimenting just how good it looks and how gently and scale-like it flies.
DART H1S4 - AVIATOR ....we can give the legendary American-made Hughes Aircraft - HUGHES H1-S4 RACER ,aircraft had a huge impact worldwide.Hughes was a lifelong aircraft enthusiast, pilot, and self-taught aircraft engineer. He set many world records, and designed and built several aicraft himself while heading Hughes Aircraft. The most important aircraft he designed was the HUGHES H1-RACER . On September 13,1935 - Hughes, flying the H-1, set the world speed record of 352 mph (566 km/h) over his test course near Santa Ana, California. (The previous record was 314 mph (505 km/h). A year and a half later January 19,1937 , flying a somewhat re-designed H-1S4 Racer, Hughes set a new trans-continental speed record by flying non-stop from Los Angeles to New York City in 7 hours, 28 minutes and 25 seconds (beating his own previous record of 9 hours, 27 minutes). His average speed over the flight was 322 mph (518 km/h).The H-1 Racer influenced the design of a number of World War II fighter airplanes such as the Mitsubishi Zero.American pilot to remember that, a time during WWII Japan's Zero fighter took pearl Harbor by surprise with its speed and tight turning radius.
