I just got a copy of Thornburg's Old Buzzard Soaring Book in the mail and I've been reading it since yesterday afternoon. What an awesome book! I've heard a lot of the tips and tricks before, but never all in the same space! I think this is probably the best $21 for gliders I've spent. Yay!

I agree, I got mine a couple of months ago, a real page turner.

I've read mine a couple times. You also ought to try to find the companion VHS video. It is great too!

I'd always thought it was out of print. I tried amazon.com and bn.com, but they only had used ones for $60, $70+. I found a post (here, where else?) that gave the publisher's web site. So if anyone else is interested, it's at:

http://www.carstens-publications.com/

Click "BOOK HANGER" on the left and then scroll down to "Soaring".

I ordered Sunday night and got it yesterday.

I got mine too there, fine readings!
Now i was wondering if there is only one book (this 'Old Buzzard') we all are so crazy abaout. The world must be bigger right? I do have the german 'Das Thermikbuch für Modelflieger' but its a pain in the arsregion to get trough it. First its difficult to read german, second it lacks the Dave Thornburg way of telling things in a non-proffesor-style. Any other good books carying away our soaring hearts?
Jurgen.

Just got this book, it's been my bedtime reading each night... I end up thermalling in my dreams. :)

Well it's time to get mine out, and re-read it....just as good as the first time.

I'm glad to find that this book is still available. I loaned my copy to someone in our flying club many years ago, and it was never returned.... :(

I'v just placed my order for TWO coppies; it's still a book I would like to loan out to aspiring glider flyers, but one copy will never escape again! :D

I have a few titles that disappearon me, but I slowed down the unintentional theft by printing on the back of the cover, "this book was STOLEN from TLyttle"; I often get them back from someone I don't know, never mind lent the book to!!

The only thing better than the book is getting an autographed copy while flying with Dave himself. Had that thrill in 1990 at the Vincennes Nats. Everyone should fly a BOT in their lifetime just to pay tribute to this pioneer of our sport.
