One of the local clubs has started a Q500 racing schedule (424?). This is something that I always wanted to sink my teeth into. I like the fact that it'll only take me 45 minutes to get to that flying field. It's about time there was something like this close to my home! :D

This will be something quite new to me. What are the latest airframes, engines, props to put someone into a competitive model? What sort of props@RPMs and MPH speeds are these planes flying in the races? Product names would be great, websites even better!

I've been looking at the Jett Engineering BSE Q500 (http://jettengineering.com/engines/bserace.html) engines. Are these about what I would need? Are they leaders, middle of the pack, dogs???? What would be better?

Any planes that you'd recommend?

Dubb can make them run just as his Q40 motors, however others are not as skilled and opt for the Nelson variety as it runs consistant in the hands of anyone.

This aint the forum for the knowledge base your after, check out nmpra.org the sig group for pylon racing. They can direct ou to the most popular hangouts.

You'll definately will get introduced to bladder fuel systems, Dubb sells what you need here.

424 does not use Jett or Nelson engines. It uses inexpensive .40 sized engines like the TT Pro .40 engine and a 9x6 apc sport prop.

For this class, most people start with either the Lanier Predator or Great Planes Viper.

After posting the original question I've been doing a bit more investigation. I see now that the TT Pro .40 is used in many of these contests. The Livermore club is using the GP Viper and a TT Pro .40 with the 9 X 6 as you mentioned.
