Based on scripts I found on this website (http://www.movable-type.co.uk/scripts/LatLong.html), I have developed a webpag that calculates a circle of waypoints around a given location.
Based on the position you give and the distance away from the center, the page will calculate 10 waypoints on the circle.
To use it, open the zipfile and extract the file gps-circle.html to a local folder (any folder will do). By double clicking on the file, it will open in your favourite browser (tested in Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer).
The calculation is pretty much forward. Just enter some data and press the button to calculate the waypoints.
I made this to be able to fly an UAV around an object and make pictures while the plane is in autonomous flight.
Looking forward to hear your findings.

Nice work. Thank you.
I did a quick check of your great circle distance calculation and it looks good.

very nice CD,
heres a image of the output from his example. Do you want it hosted on a website?

I was a little in a hurry, so wanted to add information about the maps later. On the page there is a link 2 generate a map like the on above, but it is also possible to make a google map with more detail about the surrounding of the circle.
There is also a link to generate a KMZ (zipped KML) file for Google earth.
@Matt,
feel free to post the html file on a website, but please keep the information on the bottom of the page as it is now. I used scripts that were developed by Chris Veness, I have his permission to use the scripts, but he asked if I could put a link to his page on my website.

I think I made an error in my previous post. You can post the page as it is now, without any changes. I currently don't have a website where it would fit.
I am currently working to make it possible to output data that can be read in Garmin Mapsource software (creating .WPT file).

hi
the link for working with google maps is very cool , thanks again , dana :D
i find when i set the radius too small ( .1 Km ) it gets a little irregular , and i couldn't help but edit the file so it would do 20 points instead of 10

just click on the link on the left under "Site Navigation" about half way down labled "Navigation Calc." :)
Thanks CD I think thats a great resource, now we can all access it easily online when calulating our flights.

Matt and all,
I have a new version available, this one can generate wpt files for use in Garmin mapsource and other software that support WPT files.
Garmin mapsource makes it easy to import to/export from the waypoints to the GPS device.
Next version might have possibility to generate a .RTE file (route) for import/export.
Have fun!
