View Full Version : Discussion Trying to start parkflyers club in Brentwood, Essex

I've been flying (and crashing) electric parkflyers for nearly a year and a half now, I take the safety aspects of this hobby seriously, never flying over or near people, range checking, frequency checking and generally ensuring that I'm not in any way a nuisance to anybody else.
I joined the BMFA, read and abide by their rule book but can I join my local model flying club? - nope, they are 'full'. I have popped by the flying field a few times now on their club days and the impression I get from them is that they are not interested in having electric flyers in their club anyway - they all fly big noisy fuel planes and helicopters.
So I'm thinking of starting an electric only 'rival' flying club in Brentwood.
I figure by being all electric it should be a lot easier to obtain a suitable flying field - anyway it’s worth a try!!!
Reply back on this group and hopefully if enough are interested in the area we can get something going. To be affiliated to BMFA and recognised we will need a minimum of five members!

Please feel free to contact me here (pm me) as I would be interested too. I agree that the local club does not seem to encourage new members at all.

Robert,
Hi Bryn here from Derbyshire, Our Club "CADS" Chesterfield and District Soarers is all electric too. The orginal founders of the club convinnced the local council by way of a flying demonstration that its safe for us to use a public park (yes a public park). We all do our best to keep to our own strict rules (as laid out in the BMFA handbook). and touch wood we have had no problems. The council reps had a pre concieved idea that it was going to be noisey but once they saw what we did , not a problem! I might add that all members contribute around £5 a year to the council.
Good luck with Brentwwod.

Thanks for all the replys so far.
I think that in the next couple of weeks I'm going to try and organise a kick off meeting.
Does a quietish pub sound good to all?
Should the meeting be a weekday or weekend?
Items for discussion would include...
Possible sites to investigate
Indoor/Outdoor/both
Fees (prob about £5 to £10 for a year), depending on site
Basic rules regarding membership
What do you all think??????
