View Full Version : HPI Nitro MT w/ TMAXX engine setup? drop in?

Hi,
My friend has a HPI Nitro MT and I have a spare OS 15 cvrx, rotary carb
with the original tmaxx clutch setup(short engine shaft).

Does anyone know if this engine will drop right in with hpi motor
mounts, tmaxx clutch and all into the nitro mt?
Or will the HPI pilot clutch nut w/shaft fit directly on the short
engine shaft?

I ask because I thought the HPI engines were standard shafts, so I
didn't know if the short shaft was enough threads for the HPI clutch
nut to fit on. In the tmaxx world yes, but this is HPI...so I don't
know.

Any input would be great. Also is there any website that gives the run
down on different shaft types...like a cross reference chart or
something? It sure can get confusing.
Thanks!!

Or another way to put all this....what will take with my OS short shaft
engine to work in an HPI Nitro MT?

Thanks!

The Nitro MT had the HPI FE 15 motor in it.

As you can see, the shaft is standard length and threaded all the way. The
HPI pilot nut will fit on the short OS shaft no problem and will thread down
far enough to hold tight. Use a little loctite blue as insurance.

I do not know what the engine mounts for the Nitro MT look like and have no
idea if the holes in the chassis plate will line up correctly with a Traxxas
or other engine mount. You can always drill new holes and lengthen them
with a Dremmel if need be.

Hey Doc,
The thing is...the hpi nitro mt has a wide flywheel, it's sorta of has
a collar in which the collet resides. This seems to add a bit to the
flywheel thickness, not leaving enough threads for the clutch nut with
a short shaft I would think.

hpi flywheel here:

Do you have a spare T-Maxx flywheel laying around? You could always use
that instead of the HPI flyheel.

I have the car and engine now...it doesn't look like the engine will
fit.
the hpi flywheel collar pushes the flywheel just beyond the disc brake
by a few mm.
so anything without that collar, won't clear it.
bummer...
