Hi guys..

Just wanted to share the pictures of a fantastic aircraft I bumped into yesterday while attending the Army Ft. Rucker Aviation Museum in Alabama. I believe it's an early VTOL aircraft experiment... I have not researched it yet, can anyone tell me what it is..??

Talk to ya'll later...

That appears to be one of the Ryan XV-5s

an experiment in lift fan technology. There were three fans mounted in the nose and one in each wing, driven by bleed air from the main engines. Weight and complexity lead to the dead end on this technology. Although the fan technology, now direct driven can be seen in the X/F-35.

Thank you Majortomski for the imformation provided. I was familiar with the shape of the aircraft, and that it's operation dated back to the 50's and 60's but I was not aware that it had been issued to the US army... cool thing.

Thanks for the information...

Hey guys thanks for sharing this bird ,,I had forgot about this one ... with the better small fans that we have now and lypo's this might make a quick and dirty little VTOL in park flyer form.
Hope someone picks up on this and tries it. ;) :)

V22CHAP....

I think you're right..!! that would be a neat thing to try, the technology is readily available and even if the fans where locked in the hover position, hey... that still would be giant leap in parkflyer design...
