Today I took up my Pelikan Elegant 700 for it's first flight. For power I am using a brushless Mega 22/30/2 with a 2:1 gearbox swinging a Graupner 13-7 prop. For power I am running a 6000 mah 3s2p and a 70 amp Jeti controller and an Ultimate BEC. All up weight is a hefty 78 ounces. The wind was gusting to about 10 knots. Takeoff climb was literally straight up till specked out in about 7 seconds! WOW! I truly believe that with some practice I could hover this bird just like the 3-d guys! LOL She handled pretty touchy and fast downwind but would just stop dead into the steady wind at altitude and just continue to climb while holding that position. Landings were fast and hot due to the weight I suppose. I used full crow and 80 deg flaps to get her down reasonably. The scare part was when I was struggling downwind to set up an approach for the first time and I heard a loud humming coming from the woods behind me. A giant swarm of bees was passing just overhead at about 30 feet and a huge black cloud of thousands of bees just passed me by. I seriously thought about throwing the transmitter down and hauling butt. I held on and they moved away and I made a nervous landing. :) I made several other flights after checking my shorts. What a cool day this has been!
