View Full Version : Discussion Correctly using Realflight G3! How to do it?

I went out and bought G3 a couple days ago. I love it! It helps so much with orientation BUT I tend to get carried away and try to do stuff I wouldn't normally do. Does anyone have any input on a better way to practice? :) Should I just fly circuits and figure-8's then land safely afterwards and pat myself on the back or should I keep flying fast, doing awesome loops (sometimes crashing) and trying to do some inverted flying?!

I am just starting to use G3 too, but I remember when I started out in R/C cars, I decided that everything I did had to be on purpose. So with G3, I make sure that I practice, practice, practice. I don't tool around, but concentrate on particular actions so the heli only does exactly what I want it to. It is not easy, and it is tempting to change your mind when trying a manouvre, but it is better to stop and start again, so you only learn it right.

Does that make sense?

I use it to concentrate on the things that I can’t do well with the real helicopter. Fly them on G3 until you are proficient. I actually have a list of practice maneuvers and new things I want to learn.

Don’t forget to do maneuvers both right and left. I have some things that I can only do one way so the reverse direction is something on my list. I also try to learn one or two new things each summer. Don’t try to many things just concentrate on one thing until you master it on the sim and real helicopter. Sometimes I practice on the G3 just before I go flying – which helps prevent crashes a lot.

unfortunatly I don't have realflight but I used to use FMS ALOT... same rule apply. I wanted to get good at nose in the I would practice turning the heli around and hovering nose in for hours, first time I did it with my real heli it was second nature. same thing with inverted. I praticed and practiced until I knew exactly how the stick movement would affect the heli and now I can go inverted without trouble, albeit really high up... but it's getting lower. don't only pratice the maneuvers, but try to disorient yourself so you can practice bailing out. one day I was praticing funnels when I screwed up and the heli was screaming towards the ground sideways at a weird angle, and somehow I was able to think it out and pull out of it with about 6 inches to spare. I didn't even know I saved the heli at first cuz in my mind I saw my heli in a million peices flying across the feild.... anyways. have fun and remember to be safe.

basically you should consider that crashing even in G3 is a disaster. Taking it this way, you will probably have a different approach to what type of figures you do.
Also I find out that doing "creazy" figures is fun, but if you really want to improve you should focus on basics such as hover in all directions, E shape in all directions and so on. This is not so fun but really "teaches" you.
