I am stuck out here in the desert and have no launch system with which to practice my trade...I really don't want to lug a winch around anymore, so I decided to get a hi-start. I like to fly everything from Windfrees to 13' self-designed stuff, so maybe one size won't fit all. I have a 'chute, and line's available, so I just need a good piece of latex. Anybody know of a source of 7/16" or 1/2" stuff? I have never used anything but the amber stuff. It rotted pretty fast while I was in Houston. I heard the red and balck stuff was not as stretchy... is that true? Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Jack,
I got my hi-start from NESailplane (.com). The site will give you some idea of size based on your size plane(s). I think that they will just sell the latex, although I got the full hi-start. Theirs is orange in colour. The other that I know of is Hosemonster. Theirs is black in colour. Not sure of the e-site for that. The colour in the latex does delay the damage from ultra violet rays. The amber is the natural colour and is not protected. Which one is best? What I've seen when others ask about hi-starts is, these two are the best but personal preference will decide which ONE.

I got the 3 meter hosemonster hi start set up and am soooo very, very pleased. The chute is the absolute best Ive ever seen,it dont tear on cactus as I live in the desert also, it is also convertible into two upstarts. The rubber really streches and pull up everything fron my 60 ounce 3 meter Victory to my Gentle Lady. About the pull, this unit does not unload quickly up on pull but unloads evenly all the way through the launch. Yet has authority. Make sense? It just makes one big beautiful arc in the sky. After two years of near weekly use I see no sign of age or cracking. I fully , without question or hesitation recomend this hi start.

Hi Jack,
My F3B's and soon enough my Houston Hawk (whenever they open our field again  ) go up on a 4 meter www.aerofoam.com hose monster hi start.
I also bought a 2 meter histart with Spectra line from them.
Both are good quality, although I use my winch (F3B) much more than a hi start. Plus I got everything packed right and delivered "pronto", which on this end of the world means a lot.
