I've heard that you can use dope instead of finishing resin to fiberglass the bottom of a hull, its an electric powered scale "v hull" boat, it will be spray painted after its glassed. Can I do this with the dope or should I stick with finishing resin?

dds7197,
The thing to consider is will the paint be compatible with the dope. (I don't have much experience -with- dope, lots in -being- one.) Dope can be used instead of resin for fibreglassing, I think it takes more of it to obtain the same strength, but if that's what'cha got...

Normal solvent based paints are ok on nitrocellulose surfaces like dope, However, don't try it the other way round.
