Hi all!

I'm building the Dumas CC Commander and would like to equip it for R/C, however I have no R/C experience and little knowledge of electronics. I'm thinking I should use the recomended Dumas motors and speed control to keep things simple, but hate to shell out another $150+ at this point! Can anyone recommend similar stuff for a better price that will work with a minimum of modifications? I'd also like to be able to transfer the same hardware to other boats in the future.

BTW, this is a great site with a wonderful bunch of folks!

I like the ProBoat ESC, at $40 it is a good bargain and it is waterproof. The Dumas speed control is a mechanical resistor that still needs a servo to use it, it makes a good heater though. The Dumas/Pittman is a good motor for slower models, expensive. A basic 550 motor, 5-10 dollars, will give you more speed for the same size but with shorter run times. A couple of 6 cell packs and a charger can keep you running all day.

I wouldn't use the Dumas speed control myself but that is a personal choice. You can follow Greenboats advice or even check out e bay for speed controls. They are selling there for $28 + $5 shipping. http://cgi.ebay.com/50A-Max-100A-Electronic-Speed-Controller-For-Boats_W0QQitemZ6042031882QQcategoryZ34058QQtcZphot oQQcmdZViewItem
That is for a 50A controller. I usually buy Johnson motors from http://www.allelectronics.com/ They are fairly cheap and are real workhorses.

I allso prefure the proboat ESC but I use the motor out of a 9v. bettery pack drill I picked up at a second hand shop for 2.00 bucks I run the boat on a 7.2 v ni-cad battery pack, it's direct drive, runs about 45 min. before needing a charge. It runs about 15 mhr for the first 20 min. hope this helps

The Dumas speed control is antiquated compared to the new one that Polk Hobby puts out. The size is about 1-1/4 x 1-1/4 x 1" thick and it plugs right into the receiver. I whole lot smaller and a whole light lighter. I thought that R/C was a lot harder to hook up than it is. A Hitec Ranger II r/c set is just about complete and has two servos with it. If you use the Polk Hobby speed control you will only need one. Directions in the r/c are very simple to understand.

Addition to my last message.
You may want to talk to M.A.C.k. Products, as he knows and sells r/c equipment and kits . Mackproductsrc.com Mack Products P.O. Box 464 Long Branch N.J.
Phone Number 732-870-2966 from 3 to 6 P.M. Daily. He has a small machine shop in the back of his hobby store and also manufactures parts for boats both r/c and non.

Thanks eveyone. Now that the spring has finally arrived there's not much time for building. so I've got a lot of time to decide. I'll post on whatever I use and how it works out.
