The owner of one of my LHS's spoke with somebody about getting copies of the new magazine back in December and again in January. He has yet to see any copies. I wanted to see a copy of the magazine before getting a subscription but if you cannot provide copies of your product to hobby shops then why should I even expend the effort to get a subscription. I'm not impressed.........

Jcopter
Apr 01, 2006, 02:11 PM
I do not believe that it is available through any hobby shop only through subscriptions, so in that regard no store would have any copies for you to be impressed by, But I am sure that If you did see a copy that you would be.

I subcribe to the new mag and I tought it was very good but very short,
hopefully it will get longer with time and knowledge!

But for lack of r/c boat mags avalible today, I would think it is worth giving a try and lets hope it will grow and take off with time.

CAPTIAN RON,

I got a question! On the web site for the scale & r-c boat mag. I see this add on the bottom for the mag that has other covers on them but with the scale&r/c boat logo's . What are these? are they future covers or a past cover for other mags?

Thanks longbike

I picked up both of the first issues at the Toledo show plus Capt. Ron gave me a hat! I started reading the issues on the trip home and then the next day. Mr. Merrriman's article in the premiere issue really set me off as I felt that he had a "Holier than Thou" attitude and felt was very condescending to the readers. Fortunately in the second issue things were toned down.
Other than that little glitch, I think that the magazine will do very well for itself.

well if you don't like tubes foward then don't read it. all sodon't watch 60 miniutes, andy does the same thing.
its all ways your choice, read or pass by. remember that. why down the whole mag. cause of one thing. hell, if i did that i would not have any hobbie things to read.

Everyone is entitled to their opinon! This is what keeps us sharp, the fact that you are free to read all info and then gather it together and formulate your own opinion. That is what it is about! Sure we are going to have folks from both ends of the spectrum. Thats what makes it interesting! don't get mad!!! get inspired! Laff at them! Cry with them! Enjoy it, the very fact that you can read many varried opinions!!, and if it offends you do not have to read it, but the very fact of reading an opinion that differs from yours adds to your very makeup and makes you a more well rounded person, just think how booring the world would be if everything where the same, Just one flavor? I know that I enjoy stimulating, mind inspiring articles and I don't have to agree with the authors info or attitude I can make up my own mind! and in the end I believe that it all makes for a better read.

(The Views expressed are not the expressed views of the management or of the author and may not in fact be the views of especially anyone!)

Oh I beg to differ,
I was not Bashing or defaiming anyone just stating an opinion also!!!
I believe that you are reading much, much more in to it than I expressed!!
I think that you should reread my post I was mearly saying that each person CAN express his or her opinion As I did on this forum I simply stated that one could choose to read or not to read an article as I do when I choose to read anything.
My opinion was not pointed at anyone's post (Simply stating my opinion), (In fact, not to belittle your post, as all posts are created equal), it was not even the reason that I decided to reply, but since my name was mentioned I felt the need, had it not I do not believe that I would have felt the need to reply.
So I do not choose to reread the previous posts as I know what was said, (thats my story and I'm stickin to it!) My opinions were not pointed at anyone, simply my opinions and I'm sorry that you took it that way, and you are free to express your opinions.
As to the price of magazines once again your choise (See you get to choose again to buy or not to buy ) and as I do not have any control of publishing dates, I can not help you there, But at least you have a choice, and if there is only 1 magazine you would not have that choice.
And I'm glad that you are inspired when you wake up every morning now use that inspiration to build or finish that model I would like to see it!!

Oh and thank you for your service in the armed forces, nothing that I could possably say or do could ever repay you or our service men and women for that
Sooooo I do not wish to resend my previous post only to say it was not pointed at anyone as stated above thanks again

I hope that nothing I said caused that!! what ever "that" was!, I'm not quite sure what deleting his statements did, it just left me wondering?.
He did seem kinda mad at something and all I was saying was that even if he was, he was entitled to be so, and express his opinion,

And hey ooby
did ya go to the website or call to let them know that you have not recieved your issue yet, it could have got lost or maybe your mailman is not done with it yet? and they can't fix what is not known to be broken.

As long as we're on the subject of the second issue, I had also stated my opinion regarding Mr. Merriman's first article, and left it that I would make my decision whether to read or not to read his third, based on the content of the second. Bottom line, I'll read the third, and all the others after that, as long as the information contained in it remains as useful and well written as the second!

I felt bad for them, But nothing I could do I did see him at the AMA show this year, He must have some big ones, to show his face there! I hope that everytime someone sees him they let him have it! My booth was kitty-corner fom E-Power, which is his brother's business, and he was there with no messages of explanation, reassurance, or anything. :(

My business (Microglass) has been based on customer satisfaction and a lot of repeat customers, based on the way I do things. I find it upsetting that he let a lot of people down, including me---. :o

Kapitan So your the microglass guy I remember your ad I tried to get it a large as I could, and love your product, Did you loose money to ron? I'm sorry that he let you and many others down, Hope it did not impact your business any. I got a case of Issue #1 and A Big bag of useless S&RCBM Hats. His brother sammy & his mom run E-power I like them both or I would get me 1200.00 worth of product. Too bad I really thought Ron was my friend and I could trust him otherwise I would not have let him run up his bill so much and when the check bounced I knew the end was near but did not want to believe it as I wanted the Mag to be sucessful, so if ya know anyone who want a Hat.......

You got left holding the bag, ended up out a lot of money, and the guy didn't even tell you that he was going to bail out---.

Luckily, I didn't lose any money to him, probably because his book keeping was so behind, he forgot to bill me in advance for my ads---. ;)

So when he did finally take a dump, I ended up even---. :D

:) KAPITAN- You are right about Ron have big brass one’s. He showed his face at the WRAM Show in New York this year and even came to the cocktail party with his mom and brother. Not once did he mention the defunct mag or sub’s that paid up front nor did he mention anything to the advertisers that signed up. He turned out to be a bad apple, so we take our lumps and move on. It’s funny that even thought he did so many people wrong that he still sells a bunch of stuff out of his booth at the show. By the way, he said that he and his clan will be at the TOLEDO show in April. :)

Mar 02, 2008, 09:11 AM
I think that no matter what anyone says to him, it will not change a thing and he could care less. The fact that he could show his face in public tells me that he does not care. His brother and mom were at the NW Hobby Show last month, but Ron did not show.
Jcoptor had done more damage control for him then he deserves before he got burned. If he starts a new magazine in the future, I will be one to do what I can to support it. The real question is, are there enough people out there willing to subscibe to a magazine?

Kmot, E-Power will be at Toledo, somewhere across the aisle from me. ;)

Whether Ron will be there is anybody's guess. I have no problems with his brother Sam or his mom, and can't feel but that he poses an embarassment to them---. :o

In my eyes, he no longer exists---.

Ya it is not sammy or his moms fault, and I do not blame them at all, it was all ron's doing! I just wish I had some Idea of how much money he ripped people of? It is too bad that there is nothing we can do, He just got away with it, thats what burns me up There should be some kind of law about taking your subscription money and not providing the product but how would you complain and to whoom? the Post Office? so he get all that money buys a sailboat, gets a mexican vacation, takes a job in catilina and every one else gets squat! Not fair.... and he is in the Coast Guard Reserve Maybe they would like to know what he did? O well I ranted enough SO if you got ripped of by ron post here lets get a count.

Yes, I hadn't thought much about advertisers losing 'paid-in-advance' ad money to that guy, but I'm also pi**ed at losing the 2 year subscription money. I did receive the hat, which was very cheaply made, silk-sceened simple wording. i had expected a stitched logo of some sort.
Oh well, life does go on, but likewas said, it was nice to see a new, prospective scale model mag start up.
Just for the record, just what is out there now for model boat publications?
I know there is a ccouple of English ones, but the price, landed here in Canada, is now close to $10.00 each. A bit much.

Oh yeah, you know it! Most CO's won't put up with illegal shenanigans by their subordinates. Even though he is not regular full time Coastie but a weekender the fact he has ripped people off in an illegal way brings discredit upon his branch of service. I think his CO and Exec would be really interested in this.

I think I got two issues of the magazine. Was a third ever published?

Ron Olson
Mar 03, 2008, 12:38 AM
If you have the issues, he also owns the company advertising I believe on the back cover or on the inside back cover, e something or other selling a lot of electric goodies.
I did talk to him for about 45 minutes one day on the phone and he wanted to know if I was interested in writing some articles for his magazine. Since I have almost zilch experience with scale ships I had to turn him down.
It seems like a scale model ship magazine has a limited amount of followers, no offense to you that are into it which would make it difficult to have enough people to keep it afloat. I know thta RCMB or Marine Moldeling Int'l. can't fill your needs either. The other magazine went under as it got more into full-sized ships than scale models. It did help with documentation but there are other mags on the market that covered that part.

W.L Upshaw
Mar 03, 2008, 01:00 AM
Ron Olson: Ron does not nor did he ever own E-power company, this belongs to his brother Sammie and Sammie did not own any part of the magazine.

I was lucky and broke just about even with the magazine for my advertising and the articals that I wrote.
It is a shame that the magazine went the way it did, This publication had a great deal of promise for Scale R/C Model Boaters here in the US.

Ron O He was running 2 hobby shows that also went under The northwest hobby expo and a show in texas I don't recall the name rite now and he did run E-power But I don't think they had anything to do with the advertiser on the bac cover unless It said E-power Boy I did lots Of art for all his companys now that I think back on it
